Are there any more examples like Leicester on the modern football era?

Hello Melbourne City fan
Kaiserslautern invented meme magic.
Rehhagel carried the meme magic to Greece.
Ranieri stole the meme magic and gave it to Leicester.
>>66748029
It says there that they finished fourth a year before they got relegated in 1996. And FCK has tradition.

São Caetano almost won everything back in the early 2000s
they had money though, heavy sponsorship by a home appliance company

Deportivo was a decent clube in the turn of the century.

Boavista, Kaiserslauten, Blackburn
In Serie A it's been since Hellas Verona in 1985 that a massive underdog won the league
>>66748034
That was huge, but winning a tournment with one month duration... It can happen. A league on the other hand...
Will Leicester's tactics work in Europe?
Marcel Koller with St. Gallen. Narrowly escaped relegation in 98/99, mostly signed players from the second division in the summer. Won the league in 99/00, only team other than Basel or one of the Zurich teams to win it this millennium, and it was their first league title in almost a century. They also knocked Chelsea out of the CL the next season.
>>66748097
Boavista was a top tier team in that time. Not a huge surprise. Braga could have done the same a few years back, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise.
>>66748010
we (real sociedad) nearly won the league against the galacticos
sadly meme magic abandoned us
>>66748108
Tactics - yes.
What won't work is their reliance on opponents missing sitters every game and only using 14 players.
>>66748108
no, everybody knows lester tactics by then and only gegenpressing could help us.
>>66748415
>everybody knows lester tactics by then
Everybody has known their tactics for months. How has that worked out for Leicester's opponents?

Fatto was moaning yesterday that the drilled the Sunderland centre backs all week to not let Vardy go. But they did eventually.
Teams get tired and it only takes one mistake if Leicester can stay solid at the back.
>>66749014
Like what? They barely ever change their starting XI, they always sit deep and narrow in a standard 4-4-2 and launch counter attacks by having Drinkwater pass it long into outside channels or Kante/Mahrez run with the ball forward.
They played that way 90% of the time. Knowing what tactics the other team will use doesn't make it that much easier to stop them.

>>66749832
define cheap. I doubt anyone at glorious clubs like Leeds would call what the Foxes have spent on players "cheap."
>>66748108
It'll be enough to get to the knockout stages but Kante and Mahrez (if they stay) wont be enough to stop a big club from running all over them nonstop. They also need a second striker to replace Okazaki who's decent but not CL ready. Vardy is CL ready but he only has a few seasons left in him

>>66748017
Man City was always one of the biggest teams in England. They were just spectacularly shit for a long time in the 90s/00s
Leicester is a minnow team relative to Man City. Apart from winning the League Cup a few times they've done precisely fuck all. Man City have won all the domestic competitions and a European trophy back in the 60s.
Herfolge BK, a club from a town of 7,000 souls, won the Danish championship in the 99/00 season. Their head coach was Arsenal legend and Euro '92 final goalscorer John Jensen.
The following season, Herfolge finished second to last and were relegated.
Today, the club doesn't exist at the professional level, having merged with Koge BK. Herfolge Boldklub Koge are currently mid-table in the Danish second tier.
I guess there's a meme or two there.
