In order to win the CL you have to spend a lot of money. The problem is spending that money on the right players and once they're at the club you also have to use them correctly.

If, however, they turn out to be total busts, or a competing team also splashes out cash, the effects of buying big players can be diminished or can be canceled out all together.
In other words, you should only be doing this if you have a lot of financial buffers, a steady stream of revenue and if the names you buy are strategic, which means that they're either relatively cheap players with huge potential, or unique, one of a kind talents that only one club can possess and that significantly and demonstrably make your team better.
