Nine weeks of darting action ends tonight with two of three players getting kicked out of the Betway Premier League as the PDC circus rolls on to Cardiff for Judgement Night. It should be no surprise that three of the four lowest ranked players who started this tournament are stuck at the bottom.

Our first decider is basically over by the time you finishing reading this sentence as Michael Smith faces Phil Taylor. Blubby Boy has demonstrated exactly the same attitude in the PL that has shown him win a grand total of fucking nothing on TV, although putting him twice on opening night wasn't a wise move by Uncle Barry.

The next elimination fixture is a battle of the bottlejobs as Dave Chisnall plays Peter Wright in a repeat of their epic Worlds last 16 clash. Chizzy is at the bottom as he has been outplayed by nearly everyone he has faced and choked key darts. Clownman will know this feeling all too well after he blew darts to go 5-2 up in Munich on Sunday to then get obliterated 6-4 by Autism.

The last relegation clash pits the resurgent Robert Thornton against the indifferent Adrian Lewis. After his first victory last week over Smith and a surprise point against MVG, Wee Rabbie will surely be confident of avoiding defeat against the two-time World Champion whose finishing deserted him at the weekend as he lost to 2010's James Richardson.

Sandwiching these three games are two intriguing fixtures which could decide our league leader after the first phase. Opening the evening are two men who lost to Joe Cullen in the GDM as James Wade plays Gary Anderson. Gando was superb in jobbing out to the Rockstar by inexplicably averaging under 80 and losing 6-0 while Wade went down 6-4.

Closing the evening is the Dutch derby with Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld in action. This is another last 16 repeat from the Worlds, so if it's anything close to that then we'll have some game to end the night.

Coverage starts from 7:00pm UK time on Sky Sports 1.

Elsewhere in the world of darts, the latest disciplinary measures issued by the DRA have been published - http://www.thedra.co.uk/cases/ - with some particularly stupid ones committed:

>13/11/2015: Mervyn King - Swearing at a woman during an event
>10/12/2015: Raymond van Barneveld - swearing at a police officer
>05/01/2016: Gary Anderson - comments made in BBC interview (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/darts/35024363)

There was also the glorious occasion of Midget Webster and Kevin Painter fighting with each other in Dublin during a Players Championship event.

And so endeth one of the most pathetic PL campaigns in many a year as Michael Smith leaves the Thursday night exhibition-o-rama.

An atrocious -26 leg difference. No match average higher than 96. A finishing percentage of 37%. Three points, all won against the two players who were worse than him in the rankings at the start of the Premier League. An on-stage attitude the same as we've seen before from him in the majors: doesn't care, isn't interested, gives up too easily. He was relegated the moment Uncle Bazza announced his name after the Worlds.

Was the decision to play Smith twice on opening night a bad one? In hindsight... not really. It's not as if he was very good at any stage.

There's certainly the ability with Blubby Boy; he wouldn't be Pro Tour #2 if he was complete shit. It's all in his mind. Once he gets over this barrier of trying to over-impress on television, he'll certainly be a good player. For now though, he's a floor babby who will never amount to anything in the majors.

Thank fuck he's gone.

There are glimpses of his talent. His Worlds win over Taylor is an example of that.

He just gets into a strop far too easily at present and it completely ruins his game. The scariest thing is it can happen right at the start of a match as well at the end. His pettiness is completely unpredictable.

Comms confirmed he was the worst player since the introduction of elimination.

So he's performed worse than Newton both times, Shitlock and Waffleboy.

If we take the same period of matches for 2011, when elimination didn't exist, Mark Webster had 2 wins. So Smith did even worse than the statistically worst player ever in PL history.

And so we also see the simple one leave the Premier League, less than a year after he missed multiple darts against Gary Anderson to make his first ever PL final and blew two darts against MVG to top the table.

It's been a case of too many missed darts and too many weeks where he was completely outplayed by the opposition and just couldn't fight back. Add to this a Newton-esque snatch that's appeared in recent months, and this could be the start of Chizzy's downfall.

In commemoration of tomorrow, here's the biggest revolution (at the time) in the PDC since Uncle Barry took over: http://www.pdc.tv/news/article/p1pulttddc731nz1xvb4asb2j/title/square-board-to-revolutionise-darts

>DARTS is set for the biggest revolution in its history with the introduction of a SQUARE dartboard at this year's Blue Square UK Open.

>The News of the World revealed on Sunday that, following discussions with leading Professional Darts Corporation officials, the new board will be given a trial run at June's Blue Square UK Open. If successful, the PDC will make the square board, pictured with 13-time World Champion Phil Taylor, a permanent fixture - transforming the face of darts.

>PDC spokesman Olly Fasadopri revealed: "We've been in discussions for some time but have also spoken to each of the players in our membership. Most of them are excited about the idea and they will all be given a board to practise on."

>Taylor revealed: "I've had a practice on it and it will take some getting used to - but I've won 13 world titles and I'm ready to win the first one on this square board. I truly believe this will revolutionise our sport."

>Prof Ali Dosaly, the man credited with coming up with the new design, added: "I hope the players and supporters take to it."

Topkek.

It would be nice though, to see some changes in some tournaments. The UK open with their open draws and the World Grand Prix with Double-in/out are nice.

Of course not as drastic as a square board, but something like, a tournament with smaller trebles/doubles or something would be fun. The same size board, but when it it's in the very side of the double, you'll throw a single.

Can't really explain in English, but see pic related.

I'd forgotten about that. The one player Barney always raises his game against.

>barney break

Barney will never not play well against MVG

>triggering Autism

You could write a list a mile long of players who just gave in and wilted against Taylor, but most players against MVG play out of their skin. What's the difference?

The younger players aren't scared of "big bad Taylor" because they know there's someone better.

Probably barney - taylor
Mvg - gando
>>
Good match

I love based barnyard animal but he always plays so well against MVG and hurts his rankings. He will completely bottle the job against Taylor or Gando.

Fucking class from the GOAT

And that D20 closes the evening's play and the elimination phase of the Premier League.

The opener saw Gary Anderson and James Wade in a case of abysmal finishing for both as Med Man threw away a 4-1 lead but rescued a point after the reigning PL champion missed tops to win. In the context of the night, it didn't really mean much and probably won't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

As mentioned previously, Blubby bowed out after blowing a 76 out to save the fixture and then being brutally destroyed in the worst possible manner: a Taylor bull finish. Philth moves back to the top of the PL, but for how long will he stay there?

Chizzy then blew a comeback after the Clown pulled a shot at D9 into D14 to win the match 7-3, with the simpleton taking that leg and the next two, but couldn't keep it up and exited the tournament after Wright hit D18.

With safety secured before he played, Wee Rabbie put in some effort against Aidey but it was a scratchy match for both players that ended with a Snackpot win and Thorn all but out of the play-off chase, even at this early stage.

The Dutch battle didn't disappoint as Barney played at his peak again against MVG, with both players ending up well over the 100 average, but not for the first time this season Raymond threw away a win and ended up with a point after the Autism Express won the last three legs to tie the fixture. The lack of a win in the last trio of matches for MVG is frustrating for him, but he has to know he won't be at his imperious best all the time, no matter how hard he wants to be.

Next week the PL is from Sheffield, and fixtures for the play-off phase will be announced in due course.

See you then.
