I don't think I've ever watched a tournament that has had this many amazing games.
NZ monstering all before them and embarrassing India in the opener (let us all remember the cricinfo articles basically saying why did anyone bother pitching up as its Indian's to win).
England going mental against my beloved Protea's, India going www to win against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka nearly chasing a previously unattained score and keeping themselves in the playoffs. Windies mixing flair with discipline (and giving Afghanistan something amazing to remember)
Seriously I'm loving this damn tournament (although I'm still a bit dead inside after another shit tournament by South Africa)

Steyn is just too one-dimensional, has nothing apart from a vicious out-swinger and is quite good when there is reverse-swing. Can't bowl in-swingers with the new ball and doesn't have a great yorker and bouncer either. In Limited Overs, he is very predictable.

I had a little free time between jobs in the spring of 2013 and I decided to give the IPL a try despite having never watched cricket before. The match I watched was between PWI and SRH. I didn't have a full grasp of the rules at the time but got to following and looking up rules constantly. I was particularly gripped by the exciting finishes and how close they can be. I decided to pick SRH as my team mainly because I thought they were a particularly exciting team especially as it was their debut season. I've been following IPL ever since and I'm particularly excited for this season as Jos Buttler joins the IPL albeit for MI.
I'm an Englishman btw, albeit of Chinese descent. Getting into the IPL has led me to discover the Ashes that year and gain an appreciation for the longer forms of the game too.

Statscunt here

Just a friendly reminder that New Zealand is better than Australia in the only format that will be relevant in 10 years time.

Just another friendly reminder that Australia spends millions of dollars in marketing their women and children's league and are so invested in their t20 competition that they'd turn away the biggest t20 star of all time because an announcer couldn't handle the bants.

Just another friendly reminder that New Zealand's t20 competition's total crowd attendance has a lower combined total than the average WCL attendance, and play in literal paddocks, while being sponsored by a pie company, and still manage to blow the fuck out of Australia.

Friendly reminder that New Zealand did all of this without Captain McMeme, their only good t20 player and with a WA reject who was dropped for an 18 year old.

Friendly reminder that Australian bogans WILL furiously damage control by reminding me of their win in a dead format bilateral series that has zero context, or their 5 tournament wins in a format that has completely become obsolete.

Friendly reminder that Australian bogans will furiously remind me that pyjama cricket will never be real cricket, when it literally, objectively and unironically is and that they don't care about t20s even though they still post in every WCL thread and sperg out at pooniel for hating GOAT20s.

That's all from me folks!

reminder that >you could win 100 mickey mouse cups and it wouldnt equal ONE of these
>>
I know this is already discussed here and most of the people already know about this but I wanted to dig deeper and find interviews and more details about what exactly happened. What was his thinking and mental situation.
For people who do not what happened, 18 year old Kohli was batting to save New Delhi. On day 2 at stumps his side was at 103/5, 343 runs behind Karnataka's first innings total. Kohli was batting at 40. His father was not well and he passed away overnight at around 2:30AM. His family did not wake him up and he found out about it in the morning. He decided he will go back and continue batting. He ended up scoring 90 runs and was incorrectly given out. But by then his team was out of the woods and on track to avoid the follow on. After that he went straight to the cremation grounds.
Here is an old article about it-

Cricinfo scorecard-

Here is a interview by his mother about it-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EydkGbkNFxk
Translation-
Host: Asks about incident
Mom: He was back home after playing and went to sleep since he was very tired. His father was very sick and had brain hemorrhage. He pasted away at 2:30AM but we did not tell Kohli until he woke up. When we told him he started crying and asked what should I do. He called his coach Raj Kumar Sharma who was in Australia and asked him what should I do. His coach told him you should go to the ground since you have got this chance and you should not let go. So he went to the ground, was incorrectly given out on 90 and went straight to the cremation ground after that. So this was his dedication, he had a chance and it was his fathers dream. He made him work this hard and he thought his fathers dream is close to completion, now I should not back out. Since then he changed.
>>
Host: Did you feel weird about this or was he brought up to be so focused (Dunno the right word for Sanskar).
Mom: Yes, this was his fathers habit and he worked very hard with him. So he had it in his mind that I shouldn't step back. We didn't even know whats going and where he was. Only afterwards we found out when he came to the cremation ground that he came back from playing. We had no idea. But its fine, everything has a time, may be it was in his destiny, may be if he might have backed out all this would not have happened.
Here is another interview with Kohli about it-
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3x05mo
Honestly the host was pushing too much into personal details and it felt like Kohli was not to comfortable talking about it.
Translation-
Host: Asks about incident
Kohli: That incident is very important in my life because I learnt alot from it and was the toughest time for me. But I don't know what feeling I had and I went and played.
Host: Explain the feeling for the audience everything?
Kohli: If you have a passion about something there is nothing that stop you. Cricket is everything for me and has been since my childhood. So when this incident happened obviously I was in shock for me and everyone but I talked to my family and asked permission to play. They said its fine you can go and play its you decision.
Host: Explains his father died at 2:30 when he was 17(actually 18) and non out on 40.
>>
Kohli: So yes, I went alone to the ground. I usually go with Ishant Sharma who was my team mate and we used to joke around alot. I obviously was in shock, so I didnt talk to him much. So he asked what happened and I told him. He then told about it to the entire team and everyone told me its your decision. If you want to play you can play if not you can go home. But I knew from inside I have to play and if I am playing a match I have to continue playing. So I played that day and got out at 90 and saved the team from losing. That day I learnt alot in life, if you are dedicated towards something in life you should be completely dedicated towards it and nothing should distract you from it.
Host: This is a rare example of a 17 year old(actually 18) goes out to play and goes straight to the funeral after that match.
Kohli: Yes, I went to the funeral straight after the match. Like I dont know what happened to me the entire day. The only time I was in my senses was while I was batting, apart from that I had no clue what was happening. Like I said was a very tough time and still recall it till today. I still get confidence from the situation, whenever I am stuck in a tough situation I think about those times and think about how I dealth with the toughest situation of my life. I get alot of strength from it.
Host: You said a great thing and how you handled the toughest situation of you life and hopefully you do the same for the country.
Kohli: Hopefully I can do that
>>
Summary-
We all know this guy is an unreal cricketer but he also has a unreal passion for the game. I honestly don't know how to feel about the incident. But what I do know is Kohli is one badass bhenchod and nothing can stop him. He probably trains the hardest and longest to get better at his skills. He absolutely hates getting out without finishing the job and will give his everything to cricket. No wonder he is one of the best batsman in the world while other more talented people (Read Rohit Sharma) are still struggling. Kohli handling pressure in chases and tough situations is no fluke. He was mentally built for this and this incident has a huge factor on it.
TLDR-
Read the whole damn thing if you want to learn more about Kohli.
