I'm new to hockey. How come Canadian teams are so bad? Aren't Canada the country where hockey originated?

Maybe it's a temporary thing and a Canadian team was a dynasty or atleast won a cup during the last couple of years?

You can't explain it with climate or anything, since players can't really chose where to play.

Also, is there a state of hockey in the US? How many Stanley Cups does this state have?

The "state"of "hockey" actually has zero cups. No one knows why they call themselves that. They aren't good at hockey at any level. Not at the collegiate level, not at the minor, not at the major league level. They don't like hockey enough to pay for tickets and thus their teams leave them.

>>
>>66425620
That's dumb. There's no good reason to make it half a point. An assist is an assist
>>
>>66425647
this is the correct answer

also if you're counting goalies, you'll need to rate each of their saves separately

I'm sorry, but otherwise it's irrelevant
>>
>>66425686
Goals and assists at 1 point is the only objective way to do it
>>
>>66425686
you could estimate save difficulty by using the scoring chance metrics
>>
How do defensemen earn points?
>>
>>66425703
no, the swede is clearly breaking new autistic ground here

he'll need to do it all by hand
>>
>>66425677

>>66425686
So what you're saying is that statistics are irrelevant?

>>66425736
Lel, I'm not the one who's getting buttmad over some stats
>>
>>66425697
This shit is going way too far
It started as a joke to btfo finland daily
>>
>>66425755
they could be irrelevant

what if the finnish assists and goals are much more skilled and important to the outcome of the game than the swedish ones? You can't know that from stats

you need to watch all the games
>>
>>66425720
Seriously?
>>
>>66425755
It's not about happy, it's about common sense

What is your reasoning for a half point? You haven't said why. I know why not: because you don't have any reasoning, you just do things Willy nilly without thinking.

An assist is an assist. Quit being dumb
>>
>>66425794
There is some truth to what you're saying, yes. There is always some degree of risk with statistics (which to some extent can be accounted for). But they are there because no one has time etc. to go to the bottom source of every piece of information.
Drawing conclusions without 100% information is something we humans do thousands of times every day, it's what we have to do in order to make sense of life and what's going on around us.
No, statistics aren't bulletproof. But they are essential to in order for us to get as good of a grip on the situation as we can, given that we don't have time/knowledge to watch and analyze every game perfectly.
>>
>>66425895
I'm saying you need to spend more time on this

include and track more stats
>>
>>66425885
Why are you so angry?

The reasoning behind it is that the second hand assist in general has a lower degree of impact on weather the goal is scored or not than the first hand assist and the goal-shot/deflection etc.
How much lower? No, I haven't watched all games, and no, I don't have any stats about it. It's all guesswork.

>>66425930
I won't. Believe it or not, but I have a life outside of 4chan. It takes enough time as is.

Feel free to contribute though.
>>
>>66424731
Dude fuck off
Greasy ass Indian
>>
>>66426020
But it doesn't. The goal doesn't exist without the assists. There is no less impact on the goal with a second assist. Saying it's worth less is a fallacy. They are all equal, that's why a goal is one point in the nhl and both assists are one point. Saying it's worth half is like saying a gun and gunpowder is less important than a bullet because the bullet is the thing that hits the target and the gun and powder simply helped it get there

There is no assist without a goal, no goal without assist. All assists are equal
>>
>>66426106
So how many passes before the goal should get a point? The third pass, the fourth? Or more?
The way you're arguing all passes from the point the team comes into possesion of the puck should get points, right?

Are you not aware of what bright future means? I never said they were good this year.
>>
>>66428286
So you think Monahan and Bennett are going to suddenly develop into a good centres (they're not even a 2Cs on a cup pretender team), Giordano is going to stop aging and the goaltending situation will fix itself?
>>
>>66428348
Monahan is on the verge of having back to back 30 goal seasons before his 22 birthday. Sam Bennett is fucking 19 years old are you implying he won't get any better? Giordano is getting older I will give you that but they still have Brodie and Hamilton.

If the Flames are so shit, which Canadian team has the brightest future?

>implying Monahan will score 4 goals in 7 games

Also, he's nothing without Gaudreau carrying him

>Sam Bennett is fucking 19 years old are you implying he won't get any better?

Just saying needing to bet on that kind of development to fill out a key position doesn't make the future "bright". Might as well say that Edmonton's future is bright because they're sure to develop some defencemen

>Giordano is getting older I will give you that but they still have Brodie and Hamilton.

Giordano will be 33 before he plays a game on his new contract and it runs until his 38 year old season. It's going to be an albatross before long. Brodie is top pairing and Hamilton is second pair but you still need 2 others to fill out that top 4

>If the Flames are so shit, which Canadian team has the brightest future?

The Habs, as pathetic as they are. Their biggest weakness is their coach, their forwards and their pane of glass in net. Firing a coach is the easiest thing to do in hockey. Price being healthy is no more luck dependent than any other player being healthy. That leaves improving their forwards which is probably the easiest position to upgrade in the current NHL.

that's the problem with statistics in general; they don't represent real life. I wish they could just remain in sports, they make it a little more fun for the viewer maybe, but unfortunately they are used to indoctrinate generations in mathematical thinking and reasoning.

It's instrumental when governments and agencies determine their budgets to start with. Without statistics they wouldn't know what's needed and how much it's projected to cost.
And even if there are a lot of bogus stats out there, there are also plenty og good examples, which help educate everyone.

allright, but assigning meaning to numbers is a little arbitrary andkindd of contrary to Reason, don't you think?
I mean we deify Gretzky on points, but was he the most "beautiful" player? Some people who cultivated their hockey criteria in a generation may disagree, other people may like other players more.

>I mean we deify Gretzky on points, but was he the most "beautiful" player?

>>66429280
The world isn't perfect and neither are humans. With the tools we have the best we can do is to use a mix of quantitative and qulitative research to get as good of an understanding as possible. They both have their pros and cons
>>

I don't like your calm and equal-distanced approach. I would like you to take a position and support it with fiery passion.

Jk, I get what you are saying. But I still think statistics in sports areoer the top, especially in american sports.

I doubt it
>>
>>66428065
eichel is shit at even strength, buffalels possesion goes down when he comes on the ice

mcmemes line is pretty much carrying the entire oilers offense, hes so fucking good that patrick maroon is posting elite numbers on his wing
>>
>>66429539
Almost certainly intentional. The two previous videos show how aware his of his teammates so he wouldn't send a blind pass out when there's no one there. The chance of success wasn't great but it worked.
>>
>>66429565
the amount of stats alone should tell you something about the importance already attributed to that method.

>>66429586
his previous goal also showed that he was good to receive passes too.
I appreciate this (excuse this "caster reference") cerebral playing.

I am watching Guy Lafleur's highlights in youtube.
