because whoever is in charge of us football has bought into the two major myths klinsmann's reputation as a coach is build on:
1) that he transformed/revolutionised the german fa's youth work (even though the major changes in that department at the dfb were implemented in 2000, 4 years before klinsmann became manager of the german national team)
2) that his time managing the german national show that he's a manager that can get his team to play good football (even though his stint at bayern compared to how the german national team has fared since he left suggests that löw was the main reason behind germany's campaign at the 2006 world cup)
i guess the thinking of us football officials is that they need to give klinsmann more time in order for him to reep the rewards of the changes in youth coaching, which will then make the us national team play good football

The US results in international soccer is strongly related to the popularity of the soccer culture.
Klinsmann isn't the problem at all. I've been saying this for years now. Considering how much talent the US has at our disposal, 0 world class strikers for example, I'd argue that the USMNT has been overachieving for a while now.
People in this country simply cannot accept the fact that we suck at something.

The reality of men's soccer in the US is that for decades it was considered a girls sport.
The Clint Dempseys, Brian McBride, Landon Donovans of this generation are basic anomalies. In 10-15 years the first generation of American kids are going to grow up where soccer is considered cool and desirable to play with.
We're in that valley between player pools. That's why the US has been so desperate to bring in international guys that pretty much are mediocre shit like Mix Diskerud because there's nobody in the current US talent pool that's even as good as him.
