Lads, I get why the Premier League is doing poorly in Europe lately. It's because the league is so strong.
What other league can both:
a) the champions of the previous season fall so hard and lose so many games that they won't even make the Europa League the next season
b) a team previously marked for relegation be 8 points clear at the top
c) a team that previously finished 12th is now knocking on the champions league door
d) another team that finished 5th last year is currently in a title challenge with last year's relegation candidates
This is no sign that the sign has gotten weaker, it just means that all teams are getting stronger. And the week in week out high tempo, physical battles in the premier league take so much out of the teams that they struggle to replicate their form in Europe.
In other words: If you were to make a 80-team European super league with all the best teams from England, Spain, France and Germany to replace the current domestic leagues the top 20 would be 80% english teams guaranteed

I post on another forum where everyone made their predictions for the league at the start of the season, and I can still go back and look at what I said. Most other posters predicted a Chelseawinslol, but I swooped in with my superior intellect and pointed out that they were complacent, they hadn't strengthened the squad at all, and so Chelsea would never win. Instead, I predicted they'd finish...second.
And my league winners were Man Utd.
