Is there a way to get really really good at this game? Do any of you play for money or hustle?
I can usually clear the table in dumb games like 8ball, but I just never really got extremely good at nineball, snooker, one pocket etc.
I'd love to make a few extra hundred bucks a week on local university students and chads though.

>236922Is there a way to get really really good at this game?
if you really want to get gud you have to buy your own table for ez practice. Look up Dr Cue on youtube
t. rank 5 in the american poolplayers association
every faggot freshman thinks they're some kind of pool shark, it's hilarious
>>66236984
nice, didnt even know that
>>66236997
>>66237013
used my own table for about a decade now.
I very much hope freshmen think they're sharks and I can pull a basic hustle with that
>>66237044
desu trying to hustle drunks in bars is for faggots. Look into joining Canadian poolplayers association and playing in a league. If you win the playoffs you earn a trip to vegas for free
>>66237059
I don't want to go to vegas, I want to make pocket money. I don't think I can compete with champions, but I can't help but think I could pull some double or nothing with a chad every few days and make a couple hundred bucks.
maybe im reading old timey shit, but i've heard the worst thing you can do is 'go professional' and have your fucking name and face known.
>>66237119
if you try hustling faggots you could get punched in the face by deadbeats. If you actually want to get good at pool you need to compete against good players and track your statistics. The APA/CPA uses a handicap system and I find it much more enjoyable than smashing random faggots
>>66237119
are pool sharks even a real thing? like it's been a meme even before memes existed, but i've hung around bars and pool rooms for 10 years now and i've never seen anyone lose more than a free pint over a pool game...
>tfw you love pool
>tfw you have no friends so you cant play in pool halls which is basically the only feasible place to play
>tfw the only place you play is for a few days at thanksgiving when you go to your rich aunt and uncle's house who have a regulation pool table in their mansion which you've done for probably the past 15 years
>tfw i actually play pretty decent on their table for only playing a few times a year and i bet with regular practice i could at least be an average player
>tfw you would always ask your dad to play with you at their house and he would always say "no anon im busy" when all he was doing was reading a fucking newspaper (shows a lot about why our relationship is shit)
>>66237149
have you been beat up? I'm just being honest, I have no interest in competing against the best. I tried that shit in different fields and it just sort of sucks and feels meaningless.
why don't you go down to some shit college bar and make a $100?
>>66237179
I fear this. I'f i say 'hey, wanna play for 5 bucks?' they will right away freak out and say no. and no one will care if they're called chickenshit anymore
It's not a pool stick, it's a pool cue.
When shooting, put your chin on the cue for the best angle.
You rarely have to use lots of force in a shot. It's easier to figure where the cue ball will end up if you don't overshoot.
>>66237180
>"Play with me, daddy"
I think that has more to do with why your relationship is shit desu
>>66237218
sorry, i wasn't aware that asking my father to participate in a bonding activity with me during my upbringing when I was a pre-teen and teenager was some kind of pathetic cuckold fantasy
please tell me more, brit
>>66237218
>>66237182
well, and I wonder how much anon here wants to play with hard sticks and balls with daddy.
>>66237193
i've always just called it a cue
I shoot as gentle as a mouse, except for easy side pockets where that snap when they go in centre against the leather pocket is just too good to pass up
>>66237191
i've seen literally thousands of pool games in bars and not one ever had more than a free pint at stake. i've been asked once or twice to play for money and when the guy insisted he got turned down by the crowd. everybody knows about pool sharks bro.
>>66237218
>>66237230
So now asking your dad to do an activity with you when you're growing up is considered some pathetic thing?
Is this really what happens?
>>66237235
shit.
do you think it would be possible to play some kind of slow hustle? act like a total frustrated jerk, buy them a couple pints losing, play for $20 so you can win back the pint money, lose that too of course, then just act incensed and stupidly drunk and empty the wallet and play for 100, and then of course win easily.
>>66237237
we're just telling a goof. it is just really cute how much you want to be friends with your dad
>>66237261
yeah man 10 year old me wanting to bond with my dad, haha what a fucking faggot i was, i know man, what a worthless piece of shit
>>66236922
Are you a fucking retard who's never been to a bar? You're never going to get even the drunkest of frat bros to bet you $1 on a pool game.
Stop watching whatever that shitty tom cruise movie is.
>>66237279
I'm from /pol/ and /lit/ and literally have no context to your words and sincerity.
has dad played with you since? what's up with him right now?
>>66237253
honestly even that i doubt would be successful. try it if you want but i think you'll end up losing a few pints and $20. literally everybody knows about pool sharks, that's genuinely what i'd do to be honest. play for a few pints cause whatever, if i win them all play for the $20 cause hell i would have bought those pints anyway. if the guy then proposes to play for big money i'd back out, knowing what i'd be getting into.
the only way i can see you making actual money out of this is if you cross another guy that considers himself a pool shark and you're actually better than him or if you're really lucky and stumble across a greedy guy that doesn't know about pool sharks (fucking unlikely).
>>66237296
why don't they though? this shit used to be fucking common, i think? Why wouldn't someone bet on a game, a ton of chads bet on their fucking handegg these days.
I gess i could always hustle the oldtimers
>>66237309
Because generally like 95% people who are playing in bars suck and know they suck, the other 5% either grew up with a table or play in a league and are as likely to beat you in 8 ball as you are to beat them, they know this and won't bet either.
>>66237309
it hasn't been common for the last 10 years that's for sure. maybe it was so common that now everybody knows about it and avoids it like the plague. but i think mostly it's because 99% of bar goers play pool very, very casually and are at best average at the game. if someone asks to play for money they'll know he's better than them and simply refuse.
as this guy said just go to bars and see from yourself. i'm not saying this in a mean way but you obviously haven't gone out very often.
>>66237297
our relationship is shit because shit like that happened all throughout my upbringing
but that wasnt the point of my post, it was that im sad i was never able to develop billiards skills even though i really like playing it
>>66237360
not with that attitude obviously
>>66237303
running into another poolshark does seem unlikely. but I guess it would be a good tactic to search them out and try to out shark them.
Maybe i should lower my expectations, I'd imagine a lot of guys might play for a 20/10/5 by the end of a few of their wins. beat them on the 20 and then keep asking ifthey want to play for another 20 etc
ie. make them decide to raise the stakes

You're better off getting good at poker.
pool - cover pockets.
snooker - practice for 8 hours a day.
