Desert Strike.
There's not a lot of pace here with only Desert Strike having a preference to make all. This is in stark contrast to his last two runs where he's been taking on the likes of Bosham and Come on Dave who are very speedy horses, so Desert Strike's 10yo legs will appreciate the drop in class and being allowed to set their own pace.
A negative is the draw. Stall 9 isn't ideal but he's usually pretty quick off the blocks so should have an opportunity to tack over to the rail and bag the lead. He lost out by a nose to Noble Deed over CD in January off today's mark of 75, 8lbs lower than his LWM. Noble Deed won NTO and the 4th and 5th horses have also won since. He had Quintus Cerialis 1/2 length behind that day and Quintus is nowhere near that price and also drawn in 12. The Big Lad is an obvious danger with scope for improvement, but he's been off the track since November and is drawn 10 but I wouldn't want him at 6/4. Jim Crowley is riding well and it looks a positive booking with 2 wins and 2 places from 10 runs for Connor Dore. He has ridden Desert Strike 3 times, winning once.Desert Strike is getting on a bit but his January performance showed he still has love for racing. Went off 16/1 that day and with similar conditions here it rates a good bet.

Jack of Diamonds won over CD three starts ago off a mark of 82, today he runs off 85 minus his rider's 3lb claim. He's drawn wide but as he's a hold-up horse it shouldn't be too much of a hindrance over the 8.5 round here. Half of these can lead so there should be a strong pace for JoD to aim at - it's vital he gets this. Most of his rivals have a bit to prove one way or another, apart from Southern Storm who I backed when he cruised up in a maiden LTO. 77 seems a fair mark but I felt the value was with Jack at 8/1. He isn't the easiest horse to catch right, but he will appreciate the drop back in class after running against some superior horses LTO and tomorrow rates a good opportunity to get his head back in front.
