his absolute prime was from the 09/10 season to the end of the 10/11 season though. He's now matured as a player and only tries dribbling when he's completely confident it'll create a chance, but back then even when he was reckless he'd still come out on top. His agility was something else and he used to shoot from long range more often.

I like him too, but I miss the old messi so much because he'd try doing impossible runs way more often. I'm just having a hard time accepting the bastard's getting old.
>>
>>65690590
This is true. He has so much experience at this point, he just knows when and how to dribble, pass or shoot. He even knows when to walk or sprint or where to stand to catch rebounds. Back then he was all over the place and tried out new things

He's not, he's 28 and still has that burst of acceleration. He's just a much smarter player now and he sees passing options that are better than trying to take on 4 defenders. And the team has 2 other world class scoring threats so he doesn't have to worry about that like he did in 11-13
>>
>>65690198

Anyone can peak against Arsenal.
>>
>>65694634
Funny thing is, Arsenal didn't play a bad game at all. They just got MESSID. Switch Messi to Arsenal and the game would've ended 0-4 to Arsenal.

Sort of like Bayern in last season's semi

His peak was in 2012 when he scored 83 goals in a year Santos.
>>

He was actually quite underwhelming that season when it came to the big games. He stat padded hard against the cannon fodder.
>>
>>65697981
>He stat padded hard against the cannon fodder.

Like who? That was the season he scored 14 CL goals and Barca won the treble. He has been great his entire career but he'll never reach the heights of scoring 73 goals in one season ever again. That quite literally was his peak.
>>
>>65698001
>That was the season he scored 14 CL goals and Barca won the treble

Barca actually won nothing important that season. They finished 2nd in La Liga and went out of the CL in the SF.

nigga you just went full penaldo
>>
>>65698132

Not just his goals but how he was playing in general, but I guess I can't "win" this discussion cause he has had flashes of brilliance all round his career and his peak is subjective except when actually using objective facts. His number of goals a season has decreased ever since.
>>
Messi not even started to peak, bitch ass nigga. Respect the true and only God, infidel.
>>
>>65698177
10/11 and 14/15 were his best seasons. It was the perfect combination of scoring, playmaking, trophies and legendary moments that we'll see replayed 30 years from now (that slalom run at the Bernabeu, putting Boateng on skates, that Bilbao run).

In 11/12 he was an absolute goal machine because Villa died, Pedro started turning to shit and Alexis was never on that level and Messi had to step up to fill that void, his overall game suffered because of that though. He wasn't making those through balls that he is now, he wasn't dropping deep to midfield to initiate attacks as often as he does now etc
>>
>>65697918
>Americans and stats
>>
>>65698304

Did you read anything I said or are you just that hungry to troll? I just agreed with you and made a counter point but you're so passive aggressive on here it didn't even register with your pea sized brain.
>>
>>65698268
This.

Messi's best seasons:
>10/11 = 14/15
>09/10
>08/09
>11/12
>the rest
>>
>>65698268
>and Messi had to step up to fill that void

And this is what made it all the more memorable, that he was playing alongside chokers like Pedro and Alexis, and he was still able to score a record setting number of goals. The team didn't win cause it wasn't at its best with Puyol and Xavi getting older and he was the one literally carrying the team. But like I said I can't win this discussion cause someone will call me an ameristat (even though I'm not even American or care that much about stats, and I'm just literally stating when he was at his peak as a player) Can't argue that he's at his peak now cause he's slowed down considerably.
>>
>>65690590

It's kind of like comparing Jordan in '92 to Jordan in '96. He's still the GOAT, but it's a little less entertaining.
>>
>>65694736

I just wanted to put aside the debate "is messi the best"
>>
>>65698361
If carried them to a title or to a CL, I'd be inclined to sort of agree. But the team fizzled out at the end (and his penalty miss vs Chelsea was one of the low points of his career) and ended up with just CdR and some gaudy stats.

I value his overall dribbling, passing and clutchness of 10/11 and 14/15 higher than 15 extra goals on a team with bad strikers. Especially considering that he was still scoring a goal per game in those seasons
>>
>>65698421

His penalty miss was a pretty massive choke, all things considered. It's weird how you don't see that brought up more often, given how sports media tends to rip guys apart for the smallest mistake.
>>
>>65698421

>value his overall dribbling, passing and clutchness

All which he did in that season.
>>
>>65698487
not to the extent he did in 10/11 and 14/15. In 11/12 he was more like a regular striker, at times, he seemed more like Suarez is now - scoring a shitload, still assisting, but with lesser overall influence on the game

He is now much more precise, and it makes him even better. His assists become more and more godly more the time passes, and he hasnt lost his shoting efectiveness. He's more careful yourself said it, and that's better.

Anyone who doubts that Messi is the best football player in history either doesn't know shit about football or is a shit-sipping Madridista with a grandeur complex that can't look at football objectively. I think that we saw Messi peak again at the end of last season and I don't doubt for a second that we will see an even better version of him by the time he retires.

>Pele is better than Messi

Players have progressively gotten much better over time. All players get much better training and there is so many more players to choose from. If Pele were to play right now, he would be good but no one would even consider him one of the best (probably comparable to Hulk's level). The defenders back then and the defending tactics are pathetic. If you watch his best plays you can see that those defenders would play in League One. It's just a fact that players are getting better and better. Messi makes the best defenders that have had years of experience and training look like little kids.

Before you say anything just watch this video and try to say that most of those aren't defender's mistakes.

Messhit is the fucking GOAT and you cannot disprove this. The fact that he scored 70 goals because his other fowards were Bojan, Pedro, Villa, and Sanchez (i guess you can add Ibrahimoshit as well) just proves he was the greatest.

He came into light in 2004 at just 17 years of age and by 2007 he was already top 3 in the world. It's been nearly 10 years and he is still GOATing it, he may not score 90 goals in a year anymore but if you watch him play he is now a complete player. There is no need for him to attempt to slalom past 5 players anymore now that he is literally 20/20 in vision, passing, technique, and accuracy. He has transcended what it means to be a complete player, he is the one and only, he is the messias.

>>
>>65732804
Yeah, that cl final vs chelsea was something else entirely.
Last year we were beaten fairly, that one just felt like somebody kicked me in the nuts for 120 minutes straight.
I think with boateng and badstuber/martinez fit we would have a great chance if we should face barca again this year. It'd still would give them the edge, but it would surely be one of the greatest matches we ever played. But let's just hope we make it against juve and tasci gets his shit together
