I lived in a shitty neighborhood in Romania. I say lived not because I moved but because it cleaned up. I can't even remember a football or basketball match not ending in an all-out brawl. I grew up in a Northern British shithole, I can honestly say that you're probably fucking retarded.
Fighting happened constantly over incredibly minor things, getting chased by older gangs of townies was a constant threat during things like street football. Drugs and Alcohol were known to everyone no matter the age with most peoples parents addicted to something, some of my friends were being sexually exploited and that was just a thing.
Occasionally social services would pull a finger out and actually take someone into care and then we'd lose another friend, people died on a regular basis too and none of us had anything nice at all because we all lived in the sort of flats that nowadays are generally condemned.
I cannot even begin to imagine how much fucking worse that'd be in a favella
