You've missed the point. It's not about scoring HURR LOTZA POINTS, although this does happen in basketball (which makes it the more boring of the various sports). It's about /having something consequential and demarcating, something actually going on, actually happening, during game play/. Most of the average soccer match is a big Nothing that one has to get through in order to get /any/ gratification (which is not even assured).
Saying that you have the patience to sit through a 0-0 match, or a 0-1 match, say, is not something to brag about, in the sense that you've been duped into watching /pretty much nothing happening/ for 90+ minutes, except for the sometime-punctuation of a goal.
The best sports to watch are those that tantalize you just long enough, and /usually/ have some payoff in a typical game without making you wait through the entire game for it. Football, Baseball and Hockey are all reliably great for this (Basketball obviously not), but even when a baseball game becomes a pitcher's duel, it's an individual battle of wits between pitchers (and the lineups they face), which has much better tension than the random particles steadily kicking le ball around steadily for 30+ minutes until eventually something breaks. And in baseball's case, tie games are not allowed (except when the commissioner screws up and declares an all-star game a tie, which was instantly and correctly hated by all). So? So they made the all-star game actually mean something, count for something. Now there's no more tie games there.
