why the FUCK does every single American league seem to want to do shit in London
>>
It certainly couldn't have anything to do with money
>>
Money, exposure. We all know it's a good idea and it would sell out immediately.
>>
MLB trying to piggyback the NFL once again
>>
This would be a monumental error.

NFL fans in the UK are such a small minority of the population. We're talking probably 0.1%.

Baseball viewers though, we're talking more like 0.001%.
>>
>>65208360
Please. You think there aren't enough Americans in Britain or even Europe who wouldn't travel to see a 3-game series between just about any two teams? Or people genuinely curious?

If it was about going to actual fans, go to the Netherlands, where they actually have baseball fields and players.
>>
>>65208438
Yes, they absolutely would. Not as fans of the sport though, but as a tourist attraction that will wear thin quickly.

I'm not even saying it to shit on American sports by the way, it's just how it is.
>>
>>65208438

I honestly don't think there are. NFL has become quite popular but I've never met anyone in my life who follows baseball.
>>
>MLB interested in London
>London not interested in MLB

Why not playing in Latin countries that ACTUALLY give a fuck about Boreball?
>>
>>65209309
Or, you know, Japan, Korea, or China, where they actually know what baseball is, have their own pro teams, and follow multiple leagues?

Why go to London over Japan, where they would go pretty much every goddamn pre-season until they stopped for no reason?
>>
>>65209366
Not just that, MLB could play against teams from other leagues, just like NBA does (in which I missed 2015 match and they won't be doing in 2016) and like NHL and NFL used to do.

>could a japanese league actually compete with MLB teams?
>of course on Hockey NHL teams would be beated because iron curtain and shit back in the 80's
>but FIBA vs. NBA teams are really one sided towards american teams
>and don't get me started on the canadian massacre of NFL vs. CFL
>>
>>65209309
>>65209366

quiet goy, london loves baseball, just look at the possible market- I mean the great culture of baseball in the UK
>>
Jesus christ, bring baseball back to Montreal, who already has an existing fanbase, before shilling your tickets to the bongs.

Montreal is begging for a fucking team back
>>
>>65209983

>my City had a real chance of buying the Expos but at the end decided it was too expensive

>>
>Baseball

Probably the least popular of the major American sports here.

NFL>Basketball>>>Baseball in terms of popularit

Baseball is such a global sport, why would you go to one of the countries that doesn't give a fuck about it? Isn't Cricket more popular over there?
>>
>>65209983
>Montreal
>Fanbase
>>
>>65210196
Yes, but cricket is the 2nd most played sport in the world.

Baseball is probably behind:

>Football
>Rugby
>Cricket
>Tennis
>Boxing
>Darts
>Snooker
>NFL
>Basketball
>F1
>Golf
>Cycling

How is that bait? I'm not trying to bait sorry, baseball literally is less watched than all those sports over here. I've never met a single person in the UK who watches Baseball
>>
>>65210218
They had a team for 35 fucking years and had years of over 2.5 million fans. Yes there is a fanbase
>>
>>65210274
I think the list was for popularity in the UK and not globally senpai

>>
>>65210339
Nah I wasn't very clear, can see how you'd think that.

On topic: I went to a baseball game when I was in America, pretty fun but easy to see why it wouldn't catch on over here.

NFL is the ultimate hipster sport over here now, if you're gonna give us a franchise, give us one of them
>>
>>65210191
And that's precisely why they're going over there

>>
such an awful fucking idea anyway. I will stop watching the nfl if london gets a team
>>
>>65210375
I just don't see the gap in the market for it. People get their dose of American sporting culture with NFL, Baseball is a pretty slow game, and having a game or 2 in London every year isn't going to rally the entire country behind it
>>
>>65210362

Honestly, I think the Jaguars will make the jump to London within the next decade. It's been Khan's priority for the past five years.
>>
>>65210423
The shit show happening with teams trying to go to Los Angeles makes me think a London team is possible. If there is serious money to be made the NFL will do it.
>>
>>65210442
That'd be pretty cool, i'd totally go to London to watch a couple games if there was an actual team there.

The viewership for the Super Bowl is crazy nowadays, especially considering the time it's broadcast
>>
I don't really see the problem. They're only talking about playing a couple of games there and because the MLB plays an absolute fuckton of games a season it's not like any of the fans are actually missing out.
>>
First it's NFL, and soon we will be exporting the NCAA to your colleges.

The Big Ben Conference when?
>>
>>65210375
Even the "opening day" was in Australia last season. idk I always assumed either baseball or cricket was popular in a country, never both.
>>
>>65210513
>no matter how shitty your team is no billionaire will come and relocate your school

CFB is pure
>>
>>65210518
baseball used to be a lot more popular here 50-100 years ago but it died off for whatever reason

a lot of australia's elite crickets in the early to mid 20th century played baseball in the winter to keep their eye in
>>
>>65210513
Related: Cal's going to play Hawaii in Sydney to start the season
Also Boston College will play Georgia Tech in Ireland
>>
>>65210693
Weren't they trying to make a bowl in Melbourne happen?
>>
>>65210789
That too but it would be almost impossible
>>
>>65210231
>cricket is the 2nd most played sport in the world
90% of cricket players are poo-in-loos
stop saying this

basketball is the #2 global sport after association football

London is a highly relevant and global city.
>>
>>65208286
The mlb has had games in Australia and Japan for the better part of 20 yes. If anything NFL stole the idea from them
>>
>>65210589
Baseball is still better built up in Australia than it is in the UK, by a longshot. They're showing this Australian Winter League baseball on the MLB Network here.
>they're not drawing 10,000 fans a game, but there's still support and a general base
>>
>>65208286
>>65208286
the difference being that Brits think football American-style confirms their idea of Americans as big brash and violent, whereas they have no idea about the gentle farm-centric summer sport of baseball.
They already do cricket, so they don't need baseball and there's no novelty to it, as there is to the NFL.
Also, there aren't any baseball players who can speak English that the English can understand, so promoting it will be difficult.
>>
>>65208438
>3-game series
lol
no
>>
>>65210218
how dumb are you?
also: the list of greats who have been through MTL is pretty impressive for a city without a team

>>65210231
>Yes, but cricket is the 2nd most played sport in the world.
>Baseball is probably behind:
>>Football
>>Rugby
>>Cricket
>>Tennis
>>Boxing
>>Darts
>>Snooker
>>NFL
>>NFL
>>NFL?

Only 2 countries on the planet play football.
And 196 countries that don't play football.
>>
ALSO: An NFL team plays 3 games per year
If there was a London team (terrible fucking idea, btw) at least only 3 teams per year would have to visit the soggy isle.

But MLB teams play 654 games per year.
And there is no way MLB players are going to be voluntarily jet-lagged every few weeks, especially where there's no benefit to them.
>>
does mlb seriously think baseball is appealing in any way to non existent markets. this is year 2015 baseball is not going to attract new fans. why dont they focus on the existing markets like east asia

that's cute Canada. meanwhile in Asia every single currency is collapsing
>>

They can't put a team in Tokyo because of the long travel time.
>>
>>65214381
Yeah but why not attempt to build up games between USA/Asia
>>
>Wanting an NFL team in London

Once the players found out the police don't carry guns it would be over.
>>
>>65210436
ESPN pulled off a Cardinals/Reds game in less time than the average basketball game last year. Baseball isn't slow.
>>
>>65213559
>Also, there aren't any baseball players who can speak English that the English can understand, so promoting it will be difficult.

Lol what

>>65213572
>Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Actually, wait. Why the fuck would they go over there for less than 2 games, realistically?
>>
>>65205211
They're just want more exposure to the Europeans
They've been talking about games in Asia and Latin America for years but Japan has weird laws almost similar to Canada and the NFL where they can't host games there because CFL laws block NFL , in this case to NPB has something similar but the amount of legal work is what holds the MLB back.
It isn't impossible just tiresome

They host training camps in the Dominican republics , more events and charity works in Cuba and soon games in Mexico
