The main reason that American sports are so different from European sports is that American culture is hugely different in terms of what they want to see.
European fans, for the most part, appreciate dominance and skill being rewarded absolutely, whereas American fans love parity and the chance of the underdog winning. In soccer, rugby, and cricket, the best matches will happen between teams at the same level with approximately equal skill levels.
That's why the top teams playing each other is seen as an event to be looked forward to, like El Classico or whatever it's called. Europeans want to see a clash of titanic powers.
Meanwhile, whenever there's a championship game between perennial powerhouses in America, only the supporters of those teams like it, while everyone else hates it. They'd rather see the upstarts, the little guys win it all.
Americans love parity. So American sports are designed so that any team can lose on any given night to any team, and leagues are designed that bad teams rarely stay bad for long, with things like high drafts for losers and established salary caps. In contrast, to appease the supporters who want winners to stay winners, European leagues keep the best in power as long as possible.
Neither one is wrong, it's just different, and neither side wants to watch the other one's version of sport.

Aside from that: there should definitely be reviewable plays that can impact the game. It only takes a few seconds for someone to watch a TV upstairs and determine if it was actually a pk or not then send a signal down to the center referee. I don't get why they're not using more technology with so much inconsistency happening in refereeing
