A large part of that is the fact that the NBA nixed the CP3 deal and caused the Lakers to make some deals that weren't in their long term interest. Add to that, the Kobe deal which was basically a keep Kobe in a Lakers uniform so that we can sell tickets while they tank. The problem is that deal has limited the Lakers and they won't start to recover from that until he's gone. It'll be at least a couple more years before they can start to regain some part of their former glory.

The Lakers are a much bigger draw than the Clippers. More people watch Lakers games than Clippers games now and the Lakers aren't that good. Yeah it's not going to be a fun ride for the next little while as a Lakers fan but we've been through this before. Jerry Buss was good when he acted like Jerry Jones early in his ownership of the Cowboys. When he let the GMs and executives do their jobs, the Lakers did really well. When he intervened more in personnel decisions, the Lakers did not do as well as they could have. I mean Jerry is the one who pushed for Mike D'Antoni and to make the bets on those deals that ended up going south. Lest you forget, the Cowboys still won three super bowls with Jerry as an owner. It's not going to be easy but it can be better if certain decisions are made in the off season.
