Why is American Football more entertaining than soccer?
I mean, for euros that shit on American Football for only having "11" minutes of actual game time action and a bunch of commercials, that Green Bay/Arizona was probably one of the most entertaining sporting matches i've ever seen.
Is something like the Hail Mary, or the fucked up coin toss / dumb penalties equal the same as having a boring 0-0 draw the whole game, just for someone to score in the 90th minute? Who knows. But it seems to me that even for a game that has 11 minutes of actual game time seems really fucking entertaining for some reason.

In all honesty though, the strategy part is what makes the game interesting. You attempt to guess what play is coming, and see if you were right or not. Also, catches are fucking awesome, so are some runs, athletic ability in general. Ive been watching the pats long enough now that I can basically predict about 50 percent of the plays correctly, but belichick is one sneaky bastard. What I dont think you take into account is just how much preparation goes into the design and execution of plays on the defensive and offensive sides of the ball. hell, teams have a whole set of practice teamers who run plays against the real defense that coaches think the next opponent might run. Even plays that they haven't even seen yet on tape. The last super bowl was one because of one of these scout guys who predicted what the seahawks might run on the goal line, taught it to the defender(malcolm butler) who then intercepted the ball on the goal line because of what he had been taught about a play that the opponent had never run during the entirety of the season. There are hundreds of plays like this on each team, and 5 or so different varations of each play(different lineups, mirrors, etc.) This, along with the sheer athletic ability of the players is what makes football interesting.

I've played and watched football since I was 5, but I think that American football is the superior tv sport. However nothing beats watching football live, it grants you a completely new perspective on the players work off the ball which changes so much when it comes to enjoyment. Watching a talented central midfielder live is probably my favorite thing when it comes to sport, and I love to watch a lot of different sports. Because they are entertaining in different ways.
American football is designed to be short and sweet. Plays last a very short amount of time, and every single one of them matters. That's why you feel entertained after a game even though the amount of actual action was very short. The season is the same way. It barely lasts 4 months for most teams and little more for the others. Also its a single competition, as opposed to football where even the shit teams compete in at least 2 competitions every season.
Football on the other hand is much slower tempo constant spectacle where the appeal is that important plays can happen at any time but no one knows when. At any time a keeper can botch a goal kick to give away an easy goal, a player can slide in with a knee high tackle and dynamite his own team. Entertainment is provided not only by scores but also the numerous misses, dribbles, antics etc..Thats not to say that such things dont occur in american football, but they are not the main appeals. Also, football exists in gigantic volumes from numerous leagues within countless nations. If you watch enough leagues there is no such thing as a week, hell, even a day without football for the entire year. Euro football also feels more ad-libbed, with very few instances of rehearsed plays working out, in contrast to american football where every player knows exactly what they are going to do before the snap with occasional improvisations.
But the truth is that people mostly prefer the one they grew up with. Americans can't understand how europeans tolerate their kits being walking billboards and euros can't get how can someone watch a near 4 hour program for little over 10 minutes of action.
All in all they are the same, they just provide entertainment in different ways for different people.

It's the feeling of suspense. The limited play time makes the action all the more frenetic and intense once it occurs. You get the build up before the ball is snapped and other deliberations.
It's kind of a like a thriller movie as opposed to a non-stop action flick. Also, pretty comfy to watch since you don't have to train your eyes on the game the whole time and can talk to people, eat, do homework or something.

I find that I can enjoy both, especially when I watch American Football on a British broadcaster that replaces ad breaks with game analysis and discussion. It's a lot easier for me to maintain interest in such circumstances, perhaps because I'm so used to switching off from a sporting spectacle once the adverts kick in.
The only thing I would say in terms of preference is that scoring feels a lot more cathartic in Association Football. I tend to get more intense emotional peaks and troughs over the course of a game for some reason.
I guess the way I'd describe it is that American Football feels like a series of quickies whereas Association Football is more like edging until intense release. Ultimately there's a lot of enjoyment to be found in both.

Its a learned thing. Like a sever tackle is learned. If you hit someone its instinctual to rotate but instead of rotating which lets them slip free you should sink your nails into skin equipment cloth etc and hit them head on into a body part and attempt to sever them in half by applying backwards pressure on what youre hitting, not rotational. Your first few tackles will be rotational and it lets them land on you which you dont want.
