the fact that a striker/playmaker scores a lot or assists a lot is good to determine that he's a quality player.
however, you can't base your judgement solely on stats, and even if your stats are really low that doesn't mean you're not good enough to be the best, particularly as a playmaker, not so much as a striker because they do rely on stats a lot more.
I mean, the way the count assists is pretty flawed anyways.

I'm not, just using it as one of the indicators that Sneijder wasn't consistently brilliant throughout 2010 (in fact, he was absolutely dogshit in the 2nd half of the year). He had a great season and Inter won a lot of trophies but they were the best team and they won it with Sneijder as a cog in that machine, not the driving force. Milito, for example, was much more important in every competition they won, so was defensive organisation (but they don't give Ballon d'Ors for that so I'll stick with Milito)

Italy is far more likely to be pissed about Suarez at the last World Cup. All he did against England was score from a stupid England defending error, which is exactly what Italy did too.
