This man has a Master's Degree from Stanford.

What's your excuse?
>>

I failed my studies because I had to work 30h a week and also fucking sloots was important in my life back then (still kinda is)

I'm fairly certain he was accepted to the graduate program and had a year of study, but left for the NFL before completing a graduate degree.

Hey bro I got my MA in comm and leader studies at Gonzaga and it bumped me up to a senior account exec job at a marketing firm in Portland. I'm making big fuckin' bucks for a 28 year old.

I laugh when people turn their nose up at non-STEM. If you've got people skills and know how to get under peoples' skin in a positive way, the money is endless.

Communications is the major that you switch to when you start failing architecture/engineering/statistics etc. It's the easiest degree you can get that isn't fucking coloring or history.

"The major in Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. Essentially a bullshit degree. Right up there with other useless soft sciences like Psychology and Sociology.

University attendance is low here but we still have a very organised and productive workforce. Most of our engineers, for example, leave school at 19 then work for several years before going to do a degree.

There's a huge power gap in the U.S. between Yale, Princeton, and Harvard, and every school after.

My point about the Ivy's is that Stanford can never have the prestige that the Ivy's do.

There are a disproportionate amount of U.S. presidents that are Ivy League grads, including the past four.

Yeah you actually need a modicum of intelligence to get into Stanford, even if you're spectacular at football.
>>
>>64826994

I have a feeling most of the people in this thread are high schoolers who think they're going to get into a top 10 school no problem and are bragging ahead of time of what they think will be their future school.

Trust me, I went to one of the best high schools in the country. Everyone there would talk daily about how they were "trying to decide between Harvard or Stanford, or maybe Princeton too" as if it were fucking guaranteed.

In a class of 200 students, literally TWO of them got into schools ranked in the top 15. I will never forget the fucking jubilation that went through me when all those elitist fuckfaces got their poor little dreams crushed and had to settle for the state university instead. They were literally CRYING at my lunch table. It was
incredible.
People don't fucking realize what it takes to get into those schools. They think if they ace their SATs, finish with a 4.0, join a lot of clubs, then they're in. Unless you come from a rich as fuck family, had relatives who went to that school, and have connections, your intelligence and grades alone won't do shit for you.

It's far easier to have a high GPA in graduate school than undergraduate school. Also, as everyone else is saying, Sherman got a degree in communications which is a bozo major. If Sherman had gotten the GPA he had at Cal, I'd be quite a bit more impressed. Stanford's average GPA is higher than a place like Cal and that's even accounting for purportedly smarter people at Stanford.

If the OP really wanted to point out a smart athlete who is also black, he should have used Calvin Johnson as an example. The internet. Just start googling. I started with Codecademy.com, but that really only gave me a small taste. Just start digging and eventually you figure out a learning process that works for you.

>>64829308
Im familiar with code academy. Anyother sites you would suggest?
>>
>>64826794

The types of connections you can build at HYP are only superior to those you would get at Stanford in a handful of (admittedly lucrative) fields but in most STEM fields a good research prof at Stanford will provide the same quality of connections as one at HYP would.
>>
>>64829351
You're missing the point dude. Just start googling and learn what works for you. Chances are the sites that I used aren't going to be helpful for you and you'll end up using something else anyways.
>>
>>64829351
Not him, but try
Sololearn
Learncpp
>>
>>64829435
Im not missing the point. I get what you saying. Im just asking if there is anything else you would suggest i take a look at.

Not arguing the point, but >inb4 unclogging shit for a living.

That said I think vocational schools are vastly underrated and should be just as represented as college/university.

>There are large amounts of people, mainly in the English speaking world, who froth at the mouth over which degree people choose to take

My Austrian friend, your problem is that you look at 4chan and possibly reddit for your "English speaking world"

Everyone on this website is (or at least claims to be) an engineering major or another STEM major who are usually social retards and their future career earnings are all they have, so they shit on anyone who isn't an engineer or another math/science major as a fucking retard

This stuff doesn't really happen in real life at colleges

lmao what fucking retards do you hang out with?
>>
>>64829746
The only issue with vocational school is that those interested in attending them i.e. the working class, can't both attend and work unlike university where you can schedule around work.
>>
>>64829794
A majority on 4chan are still highschoolers that can't even hack it in community college. They'll end up working at Khols or Home Depot for a good 10 years.
>>
>>64828755
Nah they probably hired the ASU person because they didn't come off like a complete aspie in their. Interview like you did because it's almost always aspies who go to UCSD
>>
>>64829579
You're totally not just talking out your arse, bro.

Yah but he didn't graduate with a degree in engineering, it was in construction management.
While still commendable, its not engineering.
>>
>>64829861
But they did hire me. That makes no sense.
>>
>>64830196
Also image verification was construction vehicles.
Cool.

At least I've worked for a regional hotel chain for 5 years and moderately climbed the ladder with zero college education.

24, no degree. At least I have being a white male going for me.

It's never too late, fampai. I dropped out of college at 21. Went back at 25. In two years, I'll have a degree in a good field and employers will think I'm more mature and trustworthy because I'm not some dumbass 22 year old who never had to struggle

ITT: Non-academics who think they know anything about how academia works.

(Disclaimer: I work on the STEM side of campus, things may well be different on the non-quantitative side of things, but honestly I don't give enough of a fuck to find out)

Whole-university rankings are almost useless; the only thing that really matters is individual departments. The elite universities do tend to have higher-ranking programs *overall* but it's no guarantee.

The University of Texas is a better CS school than Harvard.
The University of Kentucky is a better pharmacy school than Harvard.

(To be fair, though, I couldn't find something quantitative that Alabama or Mississippi beat Harvard on, but there may well be something).

>>64827556

It's almost always worth it in STEM, as you get paid to do graduate work in STEM (at least, you *should*; the joke is an acceptance without financial support is a "polite rejection").

If you can't get support, it's probably not worth it.

>>64828093
