The Lakeside rolls on with all the preliminary matches completed as of this afternoon so it's just the last 32 for the men in the BDO World Darts Championship.
Earlier today, 2001 World Champion John Walton defeated Australian qualifier Rob Modra in a 3-0 whitewash while Martin Atkins, fresh from last year's infamous elbow withdrawal against Rick Hofstra, eliminated the number 14 seed Pip Blackwell by the same scoreline. The biggest surprise of the men's draw so far was sandwiched between these two games as world number 3 Jeffrey de Graaf's Frimley Green hoodoo continued with a fourth consecutive first round defeat, this time to countryman Richard Veenstra.
Tonight sees the entry of one of the dark horses of the tournament as number 4 seed Jamie Hughes faces annoying Scottish prick Ross Montgomery in the penultimate match of the session. Yozza will be hoping to build on a year that saw him win three ranking events and reach the final of a fourth.
The other two men's matches feature the best known qualifiers as USA's Larry Butler plays Dutch youngster Ryan de Vreede while madman Ted Hankey faces Welsh binman and former World Masters champion Martin Phillips. There's also a women's match on featuring one of the only remaining challengers to Lisa Ashton's crown in Aileen de Graaf.

Ted is actually sound from what I understand/glean from interviews, its always been just an act and he wants to entertain and play a few funny mind games. Its fucking beyond embarrassing at times and can be annoying, but its usually taken in jest by most. Afaik Ted isnt a convicted sex offender, doesnt grope walk on girls and doesnt act like a arrogant, insincere cunt at all times, unlike Taylor.
And that ends a fairly routine night of darts, closed out by an atrocious performance from a two-time World Champion and a former World Master. A 76 average from the bin man Martin Phillips was amazingly more than enough to dispose of Ted Hankey in straight sets, with the Count averaging just 71 and checking out on only 1 occasion from 24 attempts. That could genuinely be the last time we see that mad bastard on TV, but it shows just how far he's fallen in a very short time.
Earlier tonight, the match of the session was America's Larry Butler getting the better of young Dutchman Ryan de Vreede in a tight battle that saw both players average in the mid-80s but had some amazing finishes, including a 125 from the former Matchplay Champion.
This was then followed by a shitshow from Jamie Hughes and Ross Montgomery, the latter of whom was so asshurt by a pat on the back from the West Midlander that he started shouting at the board, throwing darts away in anger and then running off like a twat after he lost 3-0 and averaged under 80. And he wonders why nobody likes him...
Aileen de Graaf put some balance into the women's draw with a straight sets win over Casey Gallagher.
