>>
>>64668114

Fair enough.
>>
>Manziel hopefully gone

Care to explain why you hope this happens?
>>
>>64668262

Owners hire GMs that fit what they want. GMs hire coaches that fit what they want.

Why would you hire a head coach and THEN hire that head coach's boss?
>>
>>64668214

Apparently the GM is the just the leader of the scouts according to Haslam? Is this how it works for other teams?
>>
Holy shit the Browns are giving their current cap guy the final say on the roster and on draft picks

Wooooow
>>
>>64668371

>is this how it works for other teams?

No. There are a couple owners who are essentially the GM, but to those teams with GMs it's that GM's job to build the team with players and a coach that fits their vision.

Haslam hiring a coach he wants and then hiring a GM handicaps that GM. What will end up happening is nobody worth a damn will take the Cleveland GM job because they won't be able to build around the coach they want.
>>
>>64668262
Because GMs are supposed to be in charge of talent acquisition and many see the coach as part of that talent
>>
>>64668371
The GM is supposed to be incharge of almost all personel decisions. With the Ravens Ozzie decides on everything. Most teams they have the majority of say on what happens. They are truly "managing" the team.
>>
Please someone ask about the homeless man. Do it.
>>
>>64668319
but if you look at it the opposite way, if you do it backwards (coach first) you're essentially getting 2 separate entities. with GM first, the GM gets the coach they want. so basically if the GM sucks, the coach sucks. so there's a logic to going coach first
>>
>>64667133
>yfw the Cleveland Browns are the dark horse candidate to move the team to Los Angeles
>>
So what will the GM even do?

Well he basically just be a glorified head scout?
>>
>>64668591

Basically this. This sounds eerily similar to the Banner and Lombardi situation.
>>
>>64668544

GMs want to be able to hire THEIR coach. If you hire a coach and then try to hire a GM, nobody worth a fuck will want the job. You would be fucking over the GM before he even got the job.

It's an ass backwards way to run a football team and one of many reasons why the Browns are a fucking trainwreck.
>>
Also, Haslam confirming that Johnny was supposed to report at 9AM and never showed and they didn't know where he is/he couldn't be reached

Has an organization ever been this dysfunctional ever?

Farmer should not have been fired. He didn't make any controversial pics in the first rounds and his later round guys turned out well.

Mcshay and Kipper both had Manziel and Gilbert in the first round and everybody thought Gilbert was a safe pic. The new owner is a redneck from Tennessee so you have to wonder if race had anything to do with it. Can't accept a team to be built from the ground up in a couple years..
>>
>>64669076

he didnt draft a WR knowing that Gordon was out for 10 games with a drug suspension

he signed Bowe for 9 million, who showed up out of shape and went immediately in the dog house

Gilbert was a terrible pick.

Drafted West in the 3rd and cut him in a year and a half

getting suspended for texting play suggestions to the coaching staff
>>
>>64669076
Nigga he had 4 first round picks and they pretty much all sucked

Okay guys. So we have two options to deal with the Browns.

1: Ship their ass to Canada.
2: Create a huricane and hope for a New Orleans type effect.

What should we choose?

>>
>>64669791
The dude was a fucking disgrace, and far and away the worst coach we've had since coming back to 99. Literally every player got worst, his defense was one of the worst things I've ever seen, he benched Manziel after he got the first win in like ten games to start a 40 year old journeyman (who proceeded to lose like 8 of the next 9 games), he went for two points against an undefeated Broncos team for no reason and cost the team an almost guranteed win on his dumbass decision alone, and I'm getting sick of typing shit but could probably come up with ten more things just as bad.

But yeah two years isn't enough to learn these things. I'm sure he's really a smart guy under it all that just needed time. People like you are retarded, this is literally one of the worst coaching jobs in NFL history.
>>
Holt shit they REALLY want Chip Kelly

The Browns literally just restructured their entire front office to match up with how the Kelly Overlord era went in Philly.

Welp, brownies, have fun with Manziel being your guaranteed franchise QB and DeForest Buckner as your first round pick.
>>
>>64669586

With the Browns, he has expanded his responsibilities to include both business and football, dealing with sponsor, media and facility negotiations as well as cap management issues.

“I really enjoy both sides of the business,” Brown said. “As I move forward, I would hope to continue in that sort of role and not get pushed to either side.” -Sashi Brown March, 2015

It's ok to say you were born after 1999. The team was moved because the owner wanted taxpayers to turn a plot of worthless land he owned into a brand new multi million dollar stadium and the city said no. And literally everyone acknowledges that the Browns history belongs to the current Browns
>>
>>64670005

>Brett Favre as the HC
>Grissman as OC
>Tebow as starting QB
>>
>>64669971
Wat? Haslam said that they wouldn't give a coach final say on anything
>>
>>64669971

Chip Kelly won't take that job, or more accurately his agent won't let him take that job.

Here's how it works. Chip just blew a chance as a HC in the NFL with a lot of bad decisions. But he still has a bright future in the NFL if he plays his next move right. Going to the Browns would be career suicide since when they fire him in 2 years nobody will touch him outside of like RBs coach somewhere.

He would be better off taking an OC job somewhere and waiting for the right opportunity to open up. Or take a better HC job that is offered this year.

>>64667034
As a Browns fan Manziel should be kept even though he is a shithead. He is the only player in the past 17 years that has resembled a QB for this team. Browns obviously have no idea how to draft or acquire a stable QB so they have to hold on to him. Just gotta find a HC that can keep him in line and acquire some pieces that aren't complete shit. I have zero faith in this draft class and the trend of garbage QBs will continue if the Browns decide to draft one and get rid of Manziel.
>>
>>64670641
20 players on IR does some damage.

Also they had tons of holes on the roster regardless of injuries. This wasn't going to a pretty season for them regardless.
>>
I feel bad for Haslam. I mean sure he's a crook (assuming you consider truckers people) but I honestly think he wants to build a winner more than everything but everyone keeps fucking him over. The Rooneys never taught him anything as a minority owner in the Steelers and then shipped him over to the Browns, the NFL gave him Joe fucking Banner when he asked for help, and now he's listening to fucking Sashi Brown because he doesn't have anyone else or a support system to help him.

I can't believe Gruden, as a hardcore Browns fan and quarterback lover won't step in and save this shitshow, he was literally the only hope for the Browns and even he doesn't think he can do it. I'm surprised the temptation of coaching Manziel or having the 2nd overall pick to get Goff or Lynch wasn't enough of a temptation to bring him back.
>>
>>64670641
Ya I'm clearly from Baltimore. It's a fact that the history goes with the org, doesn't just go to the expansion. Do the Texans get the oilers history of does it go to the Titans?
>>
>>64670767

>>
>>64670845

Modell was breaking his lease with the city when he moved. Baltimore and Houston did not have any leverage to keep the history

in any event, Modell didn't give a shit about the name or colors or history. Its another guy's name, on his franchise, and Modell fired that guy years ago.

He was probably more than happy to let Cleveland keep the history and the colors
>>
>>64670836
He's got a comfy as fuck broadcaster job that has probably landed him in the limelight more than winning a super bowl.

Think about all the hardons for this guy over the years from pro gigs to elite cfb positions. And he's gonna give up all that to front office and coach a shit organization? He's got the good life
>>
>>64669731

>>
>>64670924
>>64670767
The dude literally faked a concussion and flew to Vegas to avoid playing in a game, and completely jumped ship on his team instead of supporting from the sidelines.

I'm about as big of a Manziel dickrider as there was and wanted nothing more than him to be an elite QB of the future, but that's pretty inexcusable. He's smart (smart enough to try and get out of Cleveland), there's no way he didn't know what he was doing. The dude wants out, I wouldn't be surprised if he refused to play even if the Browns do decide to move forward with him.

There's literally no way you can go into the next season without taking a QB very high and intending for him to be the starter. I agree Manziel has the skills, but he finally went too far.

If he did fake it, it was because he knew Pettine was going to bench him again. Manziel and Pettine never saw eye to eye from the very start. Now that Pettine is out of the picture, I think Manziel would be motivated to play if the right HC was brought in. I know I'm in the minority, but I just know the garbage QB carousel will continue if the Browns draft one early.

>>
>>64671522
What promise? The promise that he's an alcoholic who can't stay healthy and is a glorified running back? He sucks, his completion percentage is trash, his TD/INT ratio is trash, his ball security is fucking abysmal, and on top of all that he's an absolute liability off the field. He's been beaten for a starting spot on back to back years by fucking Brian Hoyer and Josh McCown and he was even outplayed by Connor Shaw until he got hurt this year. You can't just excuse his struggles by saying the teams he played are good, Bortles, Carr, and Bridgewater have all played against teams of that magnitude and handled it eons better. You can try to argue that's because Manziel hasn't gotten playing time but that's only his own fault, he was the one who decided to not take his rookie season seriously at all and he's the one who had to sit out this preseason because his arm was sore. The kid sucks, get over it

That gave me an idea. Straight up trade: Manziel to the R******* for Griffin. /sp/ will fucking explode from all the laughter.
>>
Would RGIII or Kaepernick go to the Browns?
>>
>>64671697
Weak qb draft. Lynch and Goff are 1,2. Mayfield a maybe.... Stay away from Hackenburg and Sparty "prospect " Connor cook
>>
>>64671885

no one is going to take rg3's current contract. He is cut in the offseason and I pray he goes to the rams for maximum irony
>>
>>64671885
That would be fucking awesome.

>>64671888
Kap probably. Would be a terrible move on his part but I doubt he'd be picky on where he ends up like rg3

he will be picky, he knows what he needs to succeed, and has to have a places where can buy stuff to be swagged out.
>>
>>64669791
Eventually they have to get it right in one, right?
>>
>>64671885
No way would the Redskins GM Mcsomething or Gruden would bring Manziel's stupid ass here. Only reason RG3 is even around is because no one wants to risk him getting injured and not recovering in time so they'd be on the hook for that 16mil

Nah, I'd rather have the current dumpster fire than a franchise with two dirty cheaters at the helm

You're literally sitting in a corner with your fingers in your ears and screaming when someone says a fact. Browns history belongs to the Browns, the Ravens own nothing before the mid 90s

Why even fire Joe Banner if you were going to do this?

They need a place holder team.
>>
What >we need to do right now is get the GM and HC squared away right, cut the dead weight of Manziel, start rebuilding the defense through the draft around McCown or whoever can just stay on the field, do some fucking scouting for once and wait back a couple years on the offensive weapons again from the draft. Sticking with what we have now will never produce more than 5 wins in a season

When will the NFL step in a assume control of the Browns ala the NBA and the Sixers?

It's clear the Browns have no desire to succeed they fire a coach every two years, all their draft picks are either major busts or desperately want to get out of there, they can't hold onto a QB or draft a good one since the start of their terrible franchise it's a literal dumpster fire. They clearly only exist to rob Cleveland fans of their money with some Ohio sports marketing bullshit.
