New Zealand needed six runs to tie the match from the final ball, with eight wickets down. Greg Chappell, the Australian captain, ordered the bowler (his brother Trevor) to bowl underarm, rolling the ball along the ground to deny the Number 10 New Zealand batsman (Brian McKechnie) any chance of hitting a six from the last ball to tie the match. Bowling underarm was within the laws of cricket at the time (though against the rules of the Benson and Hedges County Cup Tournament in England), but perceived as unsportsmanlike.

So NZ needed 6 runs from the final at bat, and had 8 wickets down? tf does that mean?
And the pitcher rolled the ball so that batter couldn't hit a 6? What does it mean to hit a 6?

This match was already controversial: in the Australian innings, Martin Snedden took a low outfield catch off the batting of Greg Chappell when Chappell was on 52.[3] It was disallowed by the umpires, although TV replays clearly showed it was a clean catch. Some commentators believed that Chappell should have taken Snedden's word that the catch was good. Chappell went on to score 90, before he was caught by Bruce Edgar in similar fashion.

If Chappell can score 90 runs, why couldn't the guy at bat get 6? Why was the batter automatically out after the rolled pitch?

Parking the bus isn't really a "fuck you" thing, it's legitimately a style of playing. This would be like designating every single player to stand in front of the goal line in a way where no ball could ever pass through and just stay there for the remainder of the game.

From my understanding, Tampa Bay was playing a 1-3-1 formation, and were playing this counter attacking style.

The Flyer response was to not attack at all.

trap.jpg
232 KB, 1366x768
>>64640452
There's no where for them to attack. They're forced to go up the boards, where it's really easy for the defense to get a takeaway.

It was more about a bigger issue. Playing defensively like that was really common from 93-04. It was the easiest way for bad teams to compete, and not many people liked it. So the league changed some rules to stop it. But the Tampa coach tried to bring it back in a big way, and Philadelphia was pissed off about it. The guy holding the puck the most was one of the best defenders in a league, he was kind of making a statement.

And there are penalties for delay of game, and if nobody is playing the puck, the game can be called.
>>
>>64640018
In fairness CP3 is a faggot. Most fans agree he can be a flopping bitch.
>>
>>64635944

I think it is fair. If New Zealand understood the game better, they wouldn't have allowed themselves to be in the position that this could happen.

>>
>>64636783
>>64636855
From what I understand from the last time I saw this posted, the guy with the stick needed to hit the ball really far in order to win the game, but the guy in yellow rolls it so that the ball can't be hit really far.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tbtn_1mTUM
>>
>>64640741
You are just showing off how little you understand the game.

There are plenty of legitimate deliveries that the aussie bowler could have used that would have made it hard or almost impossible to score the runs. What he did was so against the spirit of the game that it was actually outlawed afterwards, it was only legal due to a technicality.
>>

They disrespected their goalie. You're entire team is responsible to retaliate when that happens.

Goalies are fragile. There's a general rule that you don't talk to your goalie before, during or after the game. If they talk to you though, you have to make a conversation. Some goalies allow for exceptions, but it's mostly followed.

They happen. Most teams have 3-5 guys who are willing to fight.

On that video, the red team sent out a bunch of their players who fight to start the game. The blue coach adjusted so he could do the same.

There's a penalty for fighting. But if you just take one of those and the fight is 'clean' then their is no fine of suspension.

It's probably going away over the next 10 years.

I don't mind explaining.

Why do they fight? It's complicated. Watch this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0waePHWjVGY
The players that injure people the most tend to be guys around 6 feet and 200 pounds who skate fast and hit people in bad ways. These players are a sub group of players called pests. Pests are supposed to go out and hit (but not injure) and talk a bunch of shit to throw the other team off their game and maybe even take a penalty.

Teams don't like this happening to them, so they get some big guys that they keep around. These guys are usually 6'2-6 and 220+. They can beat the shit out of pests if they get out of hand.

Getting beat in a fight is the least of most players worries. Getting a cheapshot from behind into the boards, or a shoulder to your head when you aren't looking is much more likely to end your season.

That video is more complicated. The two teams are rivals, and the coaches are both hotheads. The blue teams starters were known for being very talented, but not for playing physical. The red team tried to intimidate them, but then blue sent out their own guys to fight.

Fights only suck when you're team losses. They used to be more common. In the 70s a team won two consecutive championships by being really good at fighting. The league has really cracked down on it.
I really liked this fight, because the team I liked was btfo of the other one, and then to add injury to insult beat the shit out of them too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAQtabmrV7Q

People don't get how much of a punch comes from your legs, and when you're on skates, you're really just swinging without any force. That's why they can get away with fighting. People tell me the fights are the only highlights shown on foreign news, like in Europe and Australia.

you call those fights?

Most of those are one swing then a group hug. In ice hockey they at least have the excuse of being on skates, but in rugby there is no for a fight not to be a straight up slugout

Nobody cares that it's not allowed in baseball, someone asked someone to explain it and that's the equivalent
>>
>>64644106
except that it isnt the equivalent because it isnt allowed nor has it ever been.
unlike in your dumbass "sport"

yea they mad
>>
>>64644133
It literally is equivalent except for the fact it was allowed. The poster simply asked for an explanation as to why the underarm bowl was significant in preventing them from scoring a 6. Whether it was allowed in baseball or not is irrelevant - they were only looking for an explanation.
>>
>>64644251

Why are you still replying to a troll?

Kek, underrated post.
>>
>>64644251
No, it's not equivalent because of the fact that it would be an illegal pitch, and no situation like this could ever happen in baseball because it would be called a fucking BALL in baseball and the pitcher would have to pitch it again instead of being an asshat.

If a pitcher kept that shit up instead pitching he give up free walks and eventually the batting team would advance to home plate on account of his fuckitude
You britcucks apparently didnt think of that when you made this stupid ass "sport"

Don't all those concepts apply to baseball except the fact the pitcher doesn't need to move, the batsmen doesn't need anywhere near the amount of endurance and the out fielders don't need to cover as much space as cricket out-fielders?

it goes against their ideals of lots of stuff happening fast so I they don't get bored of it then having things to spend money on thrown down their throat
>>
>>64644696
He never played baseball.
I think that video was titled ironically, because all of the shots he played were to full tosses, like in baseball, when in cricket the ball is supposed to bounce.
>>
>>64637938
don't you guys realize how gay that is ? why do you keep repeating it like it is a positive ?
>>
>>64644741
>that bowler is super trash
No need to lie to prove your point to the Big Strong Americans.
At the time that match was played, Clint McKay was unironically one of the top 5 ODI bowlers in world cricket. It was a shit period for bowlers, but still.
>>
>>64645148
Have you seen American sports? Not much happens there either

>american football they play for like 20 seconds then stop everything and stand around pointlessly as everyone positions themself again
>baseball
>ice hockey they stop every 20 seconds to have a fight

>>64645155
Yes it was obviously titled because the cricket player was wildly swinging his bat like a baseball player, rather than the more technical strokes usually seen in cricket. It didn't mean he was literally a baseball player.
>>
>>64645198
>>64645198
I didn't actually pay enough attention know who it was tbqh, I just saw he was throwing up 130kph full tosses/beamers and assumed he was some trash domestic bowler

Please be actually that stupid.

It's "football' in the same way that rugby and association (soccer) are football. They're different codes (different rulesets) in the family of football games of which there's a billion and one different flavors.
