Alamo Bowl - Oregon vs. TCU

Liberty Bowl - Kansas State vs. Arkansas

Shitty bowls now that TCU qb punched a cop.

I'm just watching football to watch football but it feels empty. There's no excitement behind it because I don't care what happens or who wins.

Who else is in the same boat? And also, wat fucking do?
>>
>>64623280
Used to do this. Find a team that is decent, maybe in your state/region, get to know their players, then move to learning the major conference opponents, then move outward from there. Shitpost about how much better your team is than other teams, even if it absolutely isnt. Also do this for your confrence, it's hilarious

>>
>>64623889
Pac 12 wins have mostly been against G5 teams besides coachless Miami, who Wazzou beat by only 6, and Iowa, though. They had some ridiculously overpowered bowl matchups against teams like fucking Southern Miss and New Mexico
>>
>>64623953
You really think they lose that game if Tim Beck had lost his playcalling responsibilities earlier in the season?
>>
Coogs should compete 4 a natty next season.
>>
>>64624087
if they beat OU next season (assuming OU takes the big12 again) and go undefeated then i could see it. they will also need a lot of other teams to fuck up down the stretch
>>
>>64623422
I find myself drawn to Michigan state for some reason but the emotional connection just isn't there.

>>64623422
Bay area CA. I fucking hate UC Berkeley with a passion so they're out of the question. I don't think I'll ever be into college football the same way as the NFL... I was born into a Raiders family, any other way just wouldn't feel right.

Is anyone watching the liberty bowl right now? What's up with the loud ass off-tone horns they're blowing on practically every play? That shit is so irritating.

going undefeated in the pac is a hell of a challenge tho. every game is a fucking tossup it seems
>>
>>64626421
PAC football is so fun to watch though. I enjoy watching the sport even when my team isn't playing, perhaps because I have so much context (watching cfb all my life, played a ton of NCAA).

The best way to watch college football is to just enjoy its volatile nature and unpredictability. Hunt for and try to predict the upsets week to week. The best part of the sport is not knowing what the fuck is going to happen even when a power five school plays a shitter (see Arkansas and Toledo/SCAR and citadel).
>>
>>64624152
>assuming OU takes the big12 again

This meme needs to die. The more you look at Oklahoma this year the more their conference win seems like a fluke. Baylor and TCU both suffered multiple injuries at key positions, sometimes one week after the other.

Oklahoma is going back into the middle tier after this year. Shit, at this point I think Texas Tech has a better shot at winning the Big 12 than Oklahoma. Stoops needs to go.
>>
>>64626711
With Russell Gaylor would have booty blasted the Big XII.

Oklahoma will be ahead of Texas, Okie State, TTU, Kansas State next year for sure.
Their O'Line is basically just freshmen and Mayfield and Perrine will be back. I can't see how they will "going back into the middle tier"
>>
>>64626953
Seth Russell had Baylor doing some unbelievable shit. It's always going to bug me that he got hurt. What could have been.

Speaking of, what are some of the great "What ifs" of college football? Injuries, matchups missed, failed meetings, coaching jobs not taken, that sort of thing.

Look, here's the long and short of the difference between the SEC and the Big whatever y'all are:

The stress of competing in the SEC was so much that it almost killed Meyer, made him quit one of the easiest to recruit to schools in the nation with some of the best athletic support...

And he chose to come to coach OSU.

The SEC literally broke the man, but he's fine at OSU. Think about that.

I don't think you understand how mercenary the upper levels of coaching are.

These guys don't give a flying fuck about what school they're at. Holy Hell, look at Spurrier, fucker went to coach at scar so he could play golf, then basically did as little as possible to not get fired so he could duck hunt and golf while getting a far pay check.

Meyer fucking had a breakdown because of how competitive the SEC is. He went to OSU because they pay like the SEC, but don't have an eighth the competition. Hell, go back to when he started there and find the quotes from the other coaches in the conference about how he was being unfair in recruiting. He was doing that shit the SEC way, a way that is far more competitive than any of them were used to. The big whatever is a lazy conference. It's easy to dominate by anyone who has done time at the upper levels of the SEC.this is why he is there. Once the other schools pick up the slack, he'll have his little heart palpitations again, then say he has to watch his daughter play volleyball again (who cares that she doesn't any more, it's not like he watched her before or would of she still was) and then retire because the Big whatever is the last conference that he could pull this shit at.

People like this don't change friend. He's at OSU till it gets hard. Once that happens, he checks out.

Never watched college ball, can anyone either explain to me what all these bowls mean and is there a biggest bowl that makes you better team then all other teams that have other bowls or are all the bowls equal, or tell me a synonym for bowl.
>>
>>64638125
Just fun games after the regular season that pair up teams from different conferences. One bowl is the national championship so yes, that's bigger than the others. Two other bowls work as semi-finalist bowls and the winner of those goes to the natty.

There's something of a hierarchy after that. Some bowls are historic (Rose, Sugar, Cotton, Orange, etc) and some have been started in the past fifteen years exclusively for corporate sponsorship (anything with a company's name for a title). The historic bowls get first pick, inviting the best or one of the best teams from two conferences, while the corporate bowls take from what's left.
>>
>>64638125
They're like post-season exhibition games to "reward" worthy teams. However they keep adding more bowls every year and now basically half of the FBS division teams get to play in one. So now they've become mostly a way for corporate sponsors to run a 4 hour long dedicated ad interspersed with 1 hour of football.

Also the later in the season the bowl games happen, the bigger the payout to the participating teams, usually. Winning a bowl doesn't mean too much except historic value in seeing rare or interesting matchups.

I agree that Meyer is a pussy and would rather beat Jr colleges by 50 than lose a close game to another great school, but on the flip side of that, we have Saban, who got buttblasted in the Big ten and ran away crying about how he couldn't get no good croots cus Michigan was the only program that mattered. Let's be honest, the whole competitive edge in the SEC isn't about coaching intangibles. It's about which tacky snake oil salesmen can slip more cash and pimp out more white girls to nignogs with a sub 50 IQ. Your league's advantage is just that there are a lot of black people nearby lol.

Iowa fan here, still coping with the JUST ending to an otherwise enjoyable season.

What do you think are the odds that Iowa's program gets even better results next year? I think that 12-0 regular season, as much as I didn't want to admit it at first, was probably a once in a lifetime happening. However, a bunch of guys are returning for next year and the schedule isn't significantly worse than this year's. I'd be happy with 9-10 wins and ANY kind of bowl win.

>>64643048
Iowa will win 9 or ten games probably. The west is really weak. Nebraska will be better, but Wisconsin won't have a QB and just lost a great D coordinator. If you can beat them and Northwestern(lel), you'll be back in the B1G Championship game. You'll get bootyblasted by Michigan, but so many teams in the B1G are losing so much that it's hard to say wtf is gonna happen next year. The only major player from this year without significant roster attrition is Michigan, from what I can tell.

the other thing about bowls is that even the smallest bowl games have several days of activities scheduled around them in the city that they're in. They serve as an economic stimulus for tourism in the cities they are held in.

For millions of non-football fans, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day (which is just incredibly ornate floral floats)
is much more of a tradition than the football game.

With the power of 20/20 hindsight what bowl match ups would everyone have liked to see.

Personally I'd go with

>Florida vs. Baylor
Horrible Offense vs. Horrible Defense. Great Defense vs. Great Offense. Never seen more one sided teams.

>Stanford vs Ole Miss
We don't get a single PAC vs SEC match up here, yuck

>Tennessee vs. Michigan
This is what should've happened. Two former great programs on the rise again. Great storylines and we could've had a really good game between B1G and SEC.

>FSU vs. Notre Dame
Call it the overrated bowl.

Why, Stidham was inarguably the better QB and he played against actual p5 teams instead of the creampuffs Russell was.

OU will win the the conference the next two years running. Their O line and D line has a lot of NFL prototypical players coming in. No more of this getting ran over bullshit

Also literally half their coaches were first year guys.Look for OU to be at least as successful next year
>>
>>64668336
Next year, definitely - them and anOSU are going to be frighteningly good (so might Oklahoma and Michigan, we'll see what happens during the spring), but 86ing Spav was something that needed to happen for A&M to get on the right path. Next year will definitely be a rebuilding year, so I'm honestly not expecting anything really good to happen until 2017, although most of Aggieland expects greatness every step of the way.

I was just thinking about how there was no PAC-SEC matchup.

I went to the Rose Bowl and saw Stanford just absolutely demolish Iowa; by the 4th Shaw took out most of the starters on defense, which is why Iowa suddenly looked relevant.

Ole Miss would have been a fun matchup, and I'm sure all my Cardinal friends and I would have loved the opportunity to see Hogan and pals shitstomp some bayou bitches.

Yep. All Ole Miss had to do to win the SEC west was not lose to shitty fucking Arkansas, and they couldn't pull it off. Tons of talented and highly inconsistent/poorly coached teams in the SEC. Bama is the only team in the conference with a great coaching staff. You take Mark D'antonio and give him Ole Miss' players and they're winning Natties.

This bowl season has sucked but the natty should be fun. I'm thinking 24-20 Bama. Bama's front 7 is just so good and the line can clog holes and get pressure without blitzing. Deshaun is going to have to beat Bama through the air and a scramble or two. If Coker gets hot through the air again it might be a blowout.

I wish we would've drawn a more competitive matchup. No amount of Panther's success fueled Carolina shitposting was going to make Jacoby Brisset a good QB or an ACC defense able to stop Dak.

On a final note, glad I got to watch Dak blossom from a 3rd down run specialist to the best QB in the nation. Been a fun ride.
