What's the deal with FIFA making countries waste all this money on stadiums that they don't even use after the WC Tournament? Granted some are being used but there's some that's already in decay and being used as a bus depot LEL.

On top of that the corrupt FIFA only asked for 8 and HUEHUEs built 12 footy arenas. Thoughts?
>>
The local BR leagues, divisions and life after the tournament should of been taken into account. Some people are retarded with money that's not even theirs

Why do you only blame FIFA? The Brazilians in charge knew what they were getting into, it allowed them to give shady contracts to their friends and all sorts of things. This is why many people were protesting
>>
This is why you should only hold the world cup in the US and Europe.
Most other countries simply don't have the ~14 stadiums with sufficient capacity standing around and be useful after the world cup.

>fifa give the wc to a country for a nice bribe
>government gives the stadium construction to their construction friends for a nice bribe
>the construction companies build the stadiums and make great profit margins paid by tax payer money
>if the government wants more bribe money and more profit for their contruction friends they build more stadiums than required
>the tax payer pays for construction and maintenance and makes no use of it
>they end up abandoned

Some stadiums are hit and some of the new ones are big misses. Atleast Brazil has a decent league to support some of them. Others just look retarded in hindsight. But when you build stadiums in the middle of no where what do you expect?

I didn't say all other countries, just most.

The joint Japan/Korea bid was also alright in terms of stadiums being used after the cup, at least compared to what 'exotic' world cups usually lead to.

hardly at all, and with attendances of less than 10% of their capacity. They are a huge money sink in maintenance, they simply can't sustain themselves. South africa is in the same situation as brazil, and many other olympic/worldcup hosts.

it happens to almost every major sports event host. And I'm sure it's the same in plenty of european/asian/american countries. They simply try to hide it as much as possible, claim they are still benefiting from hosting the event 5-10 years after and only admit it was a failure when it's impossible to deny.

Olympics are a different beast because in reality, virtually no city outside of maybe New York, London and Tokyo could possibly utilize all the state-of-the-art facilities current Olympic games require.

This system of just giving the games to any big city worked 100 years ago when you just needed some stadiums and a pool, but nowadays it's just impractical.
Which is why there's talk about no longer confining the Olympics to a single city, but a whole country. Sad for the olympic spirit with the olympic village and such but what can you do.

Our leagues don't work as franchise-system. a new team can be created at any moment by it's owners and start to play from the lowest division but the problem is:

>no fanbase to attend the games
>without a solid fanbase not enough money to pay the stadium rent in these places

In fact those cities have a pro-team but pretty small to play in such expensive stadiums.

Reasons that the 2014 FIFA world cup stadiums are empty

1. Brazilians are black and black people can't swim so they are scared the stadiums will become flooded with Brazilian tears again
2. Brazilians can't trust themselves to go into a place with advertising boards everywhere without stealing them to make favela houses
3. The stadiums are too high up and make the players on the pitch look like termites which makes the Brazilian chimpanzees hungry so they have to go home
4. Brazilians can't go through the stadium turnstiles without getting overexcited and confusing them with branches because they are stupid monkeys
5. Brazil will always be poor because trying to become rich involves turning a corner economically and the last Brazilian who tried to turn a corner was Senna and he ended up dead in a wall

90001. FIFA did something wrong.
FIFA is pure and incorruptible and I will not hear this bullshit. The world cup was given to Brazil and they wasted it. FIFA did not make them waste money. If you have a party for christmas and make too many Yule Logs and end up throwing all of the Yule Logs away you do not blame your grandparents for attending Christmas. This is the same but the stadiums are probably less secure structurally than a room temperature chocolate log because Brazilians are pathetic monkeys.

Hold it wherever, just tell the host country to build functional stadiums. They don't need to always outdo the previous event for some stupid reason. Let the athletes make the magic.

Same goes for the Olympics, it wouldn't be so balls hard finding hosts if they didn't all feel the need to blow the budget building brand new Iberian facilities. A bare bones safe, functional luge track isn't that expensive
>>
What drives me the most mad is 1) choosing Manaus instead of Belém provided they decided to have all regions participating -- Belém has 2 major teams that have actual local support (Paysandu and Remo, plus Tuna Luso), no one knows any relevant team from Manaus at all. 2) building a new stadium in São Paulo when Morumbi and Pacaembu already exist. 3) Making a new stadium in Recife when Arruda and Ilha do Retiro already exist. 4) Constructing a stadium in goddamn Cuiabá.

Most of this shit could have been avoided if we didn't have a weak, small and lazy opposition. Never do away with your two-party systems, amerifats and britburkas. Seriously.

I think FIFA should test the waters in a lower profile, but still soccer crazed country, and not require to build new stadiums. Put the World Cup in Serbia one time. Play some games in a venue that holds 6,000 instead of 60,000. Take the game back to it's roots and play a world class match on a pitch with a fucking barn next to it.

It would be the best World Cup of all time.

R$26bi spent across 7 years versus an -official- deficit of R$32bi just in the presidential election year of 2014, and an estimated deficit of R$120bi in 2015 (big part of it, ~R$70bi, should belong to masked 2014 budget).
