I was diagnosed the same way, clinical depression. In my case, I was told it probably had something to do with my being severely physically abused by my mother from the time I was a toddler until I was old enough to hit back effectively. Took meds, did therapy for almost a decade. Didn't help much. Then some doc looked at me and said the depression was comorbid with and likely caused by adult ADHD. Took me off depression meds and put me on ADHD meds and my life turned around overnight. The difference was amazing.
