I've never understood how gridiron got as abstract as it is compared to rugby football.
Like, adding one forward pass a century ago, I get that. Now they have 3 teams per side, have to bring on the kicker, "laterals" happen once in a blue moon, and both sets of linemen basically never touch the ball, hell they aren't even allowed to receive it. Arbitrarily moving field goal and kick off distances between seasons and all that too.
When you think about it, everyone plays so conservatively in the ruleset. I'd love to see a game where they aren't as anal about possession and keep plays alive for longer.
