I really like just about every major sport, even including some of the non-American sports like Rugby and Aussie Rules, but Basketball is just so boring to me. 95% of the points are completely inconsequential and they happen at such a rate that most of them are both boring and meaningless when they happen. You can drop into a basketball game on tv with 6 minutes to go and not really have missed anything important; the game will either be a blowout and be over, or still be as close as it was in the 1st quarter.
And yes this does differ from Football, Hockey, Soccer, etc. because in those sports each point scored not only has the potential to, but usually does change how both teams approach the game and play, and the goal or touchdown scored in the 2nd quarter or period or whatever could be the game winner, so you do risk missing something by not watching, and you lose the chess match and strategy that plays out over the whole game.
What do you miss by missing the 1st quarter of a basketball game? A few inconsequential points? Really gotta go out of my way to make sure I catch the first tip-off.

Yeah, even though the NBA is probably the sport I used to follow 2nd most closely behind the NFL, I've pretty much stopped watching except for the big national games.
It's really just so god damned boring.
Only 5-6 teams chance any year. Like this season, the entire Western Conference is just the Spurs and Warriors, and the East is just the Cavaliers. That's literally what the NBA Finals are going to be again, the Lebrons versus the Spurs/Warriors.
And yeah, the whole thing with massive scoring is ridiculous. Why even bother watching a full game? It isn't like there might have been an amazing catch or run like in the NFL that got a team a score, or an amazing shot like hockey, or a home run like baseball.
In the NBA, basically the only big plays are game winning shots. I mean, their only other big plays are what, dunks and half court buzzer beaters? And those are rendered basically worthless by the time the next basket is scored.

I didn't dispute that. But when the best hitters in the game only succeed at their task around 1/3 of the time and get 4 to 5 attempts per game to try to hit, you can get a superior team swept out of a playoff series because of just how hard it is to hit a fucking ball into play.
Physical limitations mean that you have to rotate through a cast of pitchers and so how "good" your team is (regarding the scoreboard) varies from dominant one night (ace) to shit tier another night (5th in the rotation.) This is stupid. Ideally you would have one pitcher throwing all the games with a back up (or maybe two) much like the goalie system in hockey. This would make saying "this team is good" much more sensible.

I'm not against baseball or anything, I do like it, but pointing out the statistical aspect of it as an argument over other sports ignores the fact that it's sample size is what makes it much more analytically based. Stats are just as important in Football, or even Hockey and Basketball, but because not every motion or move in those sports is tangible or quantifiable like in baseball, those aspects are not as tracked. Also in Baseball you have a 162 game sample size, as opposed to Football's 16, or Soccer's 30-40, thus lending itself to a stronger focus on the statistics and analytics.

Building competitive teams is what allows a team to be great. Not a record. The playoffs are a whole different animal compared to the regular season. Parity in the sport is what makes it superior to every other sport instead of watching the same team win it every year.
