It's really not comparable. MLB literally has about twice as many games as the NBA. That pretty effectively balances out any "advantage" baseball has from having more selective playoffs.
Baseball is the kind of thing you turn on the background occasionally, like radio. There's rarely ever anything especially exciting happening because every game is so meaningless, but it's practically always on if you need background noise. Basketball is a sport you can sit down to watch and enjoy.
