Gerrard's new book is pretty good. It's about 1/3 interesting stories about his time as a player, 1/3 whining about Rafa Benitez, and 1/3 comedy gold.

Scrap that

Here's a bigger player who had a bigger career

Inverting the Pyramid
if you want to learn about tactics history.
>>

Is this all about tactics? Sounds interesting but I would rather read about stories or history I think.

>>64332183
Comedy gold and whining would be a good read. Thanks

>>64332227
Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into it.

Football against the enemy by Simon Kuper.

If you meant players biographies you should reconsider what is >good
>>
the ibra one seems kinda cool
>>
>>64332294
Wow, this sounds really interesting. May look into getting this one to read at the airport next week.

>1/3 whining about Rafa Benitez

With the way that Gerrard complained about Rafa and spent all that time dickriding Mourinho, I'm surprised that he didn't just end up going to Chelsea in the mid-2000s.

The Smell of Football by Baz Rathbone is the best football autobiography I have read.

It's great because it shows football from the perspective of someone who has played that game at different levels, but has also held most jobs in football.

Comparing what he says when he is a player to what he sees as a physio during the modern game is really interesting too. Was surprised to hear that he doesn't believe the changes to things like prematch nutrition really matter, would be hard to imagine Ronaldo eating 2 lbs of beef and a pint of milk before a game like he Rathbone did in his days as an apprentice at Birmingham City.
>>
>>64335069

Sounds like a good one. I will put it on the list for sure.

>Was surprised to hear that he doesn't believe the changes to things like prematch nutrition really matter

Wow, this does sound a little odd. He has had first look at it though.
>>
i hear the pep guardiola book is pretty good
http://www.amazon.com/Pep-Confidential-Inside-Guardiola%C2%92s-Season/dp/1909715255

a detailed story on his first season at bayern munich
>>
>>64335185
I don't think he dismissed it entirely, was more saying it made little difference. Its been a year or maybe two since I read it so who knows.

Would definitely recommend, its really well written and has some great anecdotes, helps that he's a genuinely funny bloke as nearly everyone who has worked with him attests to.

I'd definitely recommend that, as he seems to have things to say and a really interesting career over someone who just happened to be a superstar and just kinda threw out an autobiography for money's sake. I heard that Alan Shearer's autobiography devoted a chapter to assembling furniture in ikea and Fernando Torres did the same bout eating an ice cream on a beach, it seems they didn't really have any interest in it and just threw some inane nonsense in to fill the word count.
>>
>>64335418
That is good to hear that he seem interested in sharing his story rather than just cashing in.

Have you read the book the Spaniard posted above me? That one sounds good too.
>>
>>64332386
>I'm surprised that he didn't just end up going to Chelsea in the mid-2000s.
He tried to, but death threats stopped him from doing so.

Just watch the Ronaldo movie m8.

If you want something a bit more /lit/ go for The Damned United. David Peace is a fucking brilliant writer.

Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby is a pretty great book about the depressing life of an Arsenal fan in the 70s and 80s.
>>
The Ball is Round by David Goldblatt
This Love is Not For Cowards by Robert Andrew Powell
Ajax, The Dutch, The War by Simon Kuper

Love Thy Soccer is good if you're interested about soccer in the US

Ibra's book is very good. Lots of funny stories about his life growing up in Sweden and his crazy agent raiola.

This Is the One: Sir Alex Ferguson: The Uncut Story of a Football Genius, is very good, it's a book about one year as a press conference journalist following Alex in 2008. Has some good insights how Alex Ferguson thinks and how that season went.

Also recommend the pep guardiola book at Bayern mentioned, lots of details about peps tactics in it.
>>
Pirlo's book is awesome as well, have a lot more respect for him after reading that book

>Does it use the classic five dollar words your people love to use?

:) here and there. Fever Pitch has super-short chapters so it's a very easy read. There's a great film version of The Damned Utd so you could watch that if you're averse to reading the book. Don't bother with either film version of Fever Pitch.

I don't mind reading the text, I was just wondering. Actually, my biggest issue is I cannot sit still all that well and need to keep walking around or moving.

I will be forced to sit on the damn airplane, so I was trying to find something to occupy my time.

Jealous of the colorful vocabulary your people have. Need to start advancing my own.

I wouldn't know since I havent read it but I would guess not, since trump is known for speaking his mind outright without any of the sugar coated bullshit
