His last two fights were decisions. Also, some guys don't have the necessary fundamentals just because they have length/range over their opponents. I've seen him use his range effectively at times and I've seen him run straight into KO punches. He's inconsistent that way. True but in a lot of self defense situations untrained combatants will usually try to grab a hold of you or dont have any understanding of range and timing which makes closing the distance fairly easy.
My gym acdtually trains a drill specifically for that reason. Crashing into the clinche as your opponent throws a punch. From their you can control and manipulate your opponent and either punish with Knees or take them down and run away.

There are even wrestling based schools who teach BJJ for wrestlers, for example Firas Zahabi style, from Tristar. Traditional BJJ is not quite the same, i agree, but you can take for example Demian Maia, he takes almost everybody down, including wrestlers, most fighters can't keep up with his takedowns.
Now, one aspect of BJJ which makes it dangerous for the street is falling to the ground and getting kicked in the head while trying to choke some dude. And that's the exact reason you should train standing guillotines like a maniac. If you have some strenght you can choke a dude out in 8 seconds.
Maybe you always have to do some boxing or kickboxing just in case, Nogueira or Vitor style.

BJJ in our gym is used in reverse for self defense. There to defend takedowns, control stand up grappling and to defend ourselves if we do go to the ground. That could mean a slip/trip, being taken down or knocked down. We drill a lot of sweeps and getting back to our feet drills for self defense.

Like a common self defense drill we run is to escape headlocks since its a common move used by untrained people. So when you have to explain what happened dont say you got headlocked. Say you were being choked. Because its technically true and it gives you a bit more leeway
