Yes, it will. If it goes to trial and he's tried as an adult then every time he gets asked "Have you ever been arrested" he has to say yes. And since it's a violent crime he can be legally discriminated against in California, even if he gets off.

When I played water polo growing up I remember my coach instructing us to whip the ball as hard as we could at the goalies face with the first shot of the game to see if he was scared of the ball.
One game, the goalie had his arms up and didn't even really try to block the ball with anything but his face. Took a point blank shot at full power right to the nose. Instantly broken and so much blood... he was taken out of the game.
