So... continuing the old thread.

Also, a question. How can a N.1 status affect N.2 driver? Shouldn't they have the same car and same engine? Other than team orders, I can't see how some could have their performances so deeply affected.

I'm specially referring to Eddie Irvine in 99, for example.

So, I just read that autistic article.
>>
Priority for new and replacement parts, the car is inherently designed towards the needs of the number one drivers, one-way setup work (number one gets to look at your setup if something is awry, good luck doing it the other way around), general psychological influence.
>>
>>64254575

Well, the Number 1 status is not limited to just team orders.

In most cases, the Number 1 driver also gets first pick on new development parts of car and engine (which happens to this day, when only one of a new part is available), they get the best strategy, and perhaps most importantly, they get a lot of influence on the direction of development of the car.

So, when the hitherto Number 2 gets full backing of the team, they can finally set up the car to be ideal for them.

Taking your example of Eddie Irvine and '99, James Allen writes of an example - Ferrari had a new spec of rear wing development, which Schumacher tested. He didn't particularly like it, and it didn't make much difference to lap time, so Ferrari shelved it.

Then, post-Silverstone, when Irvine tested the wing, he immediately went half-a-second faster. It was a case of the new development suiting the style of Irvine but not Schumacher. Had they put on the new wing, Irvine could have done much better from earlier in the season, but since the development of the car was focused on the number 1, the number 2's performance suffered.

Literally every other motorsport is more exciting, even turn left. It's run by a manlet scumbag who sucks off the highest bidder.

Go watch the start of the WEC race at fuji this year and come talk to me about how there's more overtaking in a few laps than a whole f1 season. F1 would've pussied out of even racing because there's some rain.

Anyone who only likes f1 and no other motorsport literally knows nothing about motorsports.

Yeah, I am certain the company that has dominated LMP racing for 15 years now may have positive feelings about it. Now, about Toyota, Nissan etc., well, needing to ask them is pointless. I'll just rub the inevitable news pieces regarding their withdrawal from WEC under your nose when they arrive near the end of this century.

Endurance racing is simply not economically sustainable because it fails to appeal to a mainstream audience. Just study the history of the late World Sportscar Championship and you will see the future of the WEC.

They were a works team, but not a manufacturer.

25% shares. I'd argue it's not enough to be called a manufacturer team, but that'd undermine Aston Martin being considered one too.

And I'm not arguing that more people watch f1, I know that's a fact.

I'm pointing out how ya'll need to watch legit racing series like WEC, supergt, motogp, gt endurance racing, v8 supercars, btcc rather than the shitshow that F1 calls "racing" every 2 weeks.
>>

I'm aware, which is why I can't question McLaren Merc being a manufacturer, even though I personally think 25% shares aren't enough.

I just thought it was an interesting coincidence that Merc, Ferrari, Alfa and Aston as major names were last in F1 in the 50s.

Ferrari might get closer, since Mercedes will (hopefully) be getting diminishing returns on their developments now. But to overhaul Merc would still be a tough ask. and even to compete with them will only be possible for the works team.

Renault is a bit of a puzzle for me; they were the clear second best last year, and fell back massively this year.

Honda will win nothing.

I feel like I need to say something about this. I see people posting this like its the end of the sport. Not specifically your post but it happens mostly on places where retards aren't afraid to speak, like reddit.

F1 will always be prone to have boring during races. F1 is not a spec racing series, there will always be a big performance difference between cars, bigger than what driver ability can compensate for in most cases.

Faster cars will most likely always qualify in front of slower cars. During a race, without any unpredictable element, this will cause the fast cars to distance themselves, and slow cars to fall behind, and this happens all around the field.

This is purely the nature of the sport. If you want to watch cars passing each-other all around go watch Indy-car or something. Please don't come here and force your spec bullshit to F1 like less aero and spec floors and any other shit to make cars slow just because of overtaking. This is not what F1 should be about

Thankfully FIA agrees with that. I cant wait for 2017.

I can agree with this, i like F1 for the amount of TECHNOLOGY it adds to racing.

I think the only reason why people want to ban certain aspects to racing, is to bring it down to the lower levels of other teams. Which is fine and all, but that just prevents the main goal of the 'sport', and that is to go inhumanely fast.

Though it is frustrating to see a mediocre driver dominate the field simply because he has the better car though.
>>
>>64262826
>Though it is frustrating to see a mediocre driver dominate the field simply because he has the better car though.

Agree, but that is just how it is. Challenging for the title is a privilege among the F1 drivers, not a right.
>>
>>64262726
The problem is that in the past, teams were able to freely improve their cars week to week. Now there is this token shit and any aero changes need approved etc.

Of course the best teams would still be the best, that doesn't change even in a full spec series like Indycar. But the simple possibility meant you didn't have to brace for a full season of near identical results and novelty could happen not because of rain but because a team made a daring improvement (that everyone subsequently copied). I think the double decker diffuser was the last case of such a thing.

I disagree.

F1 is about building the fastest car given a formula. If part of that formula dictates spec parts to improve the racing then so be it.

If manufacturers want to piss away money developing hybrid tech then let them do so. But there needs to be a low cost alternative to keep teams around for them to beat.

Does the GPDA have any power? There aren't any regulations about minimum salaries as far as I can google, I'll be happy to be proven wrong. I can't even find who all the members of the GPDA are except for the chairmen and some articles about Kimi and Max not being in it. Even if such a regulation existed, many of these drivers are essentially paying their own salary via personal sponsors.
>>
>>64264531
Also Mehri didn't run a full season, which may factor in, if there is a minimum salary.
>>
>>64264575
it might be like a quarter back, after he plays a certain amount of games, he can no longer be red shirted

And I think the soul purpose of the GPDA is safety, not so much salary or politics

That's exactly what makes me so curious. They have a lot of talent for sure, most of f1 is based there. They even created a lot of what we consider a modern car, but still, British brands are nothing compared to Italian/american/German brands.

Many of them focus on making niche cars like Ariel, Caterham, Ginetta, Radical and Ultima. Even their larger companies that are owned by cogomerates focus on niches rather than selling to the lowest common consumer. I don't know the history or why that is, but the economy/lower priced market is dominated by Toyota and Volkswagen so there seems to be no point to trying to re enter it.

VW was created on the selling point of making sure everyone had a car. Similar to beginnings of Ford.

Toyotta has made a huge profit in the past making reliable cheap cars that could compete with upper situates. They are/were similar to Chrysler when they were good/decent.

Jenson is standing on the big building at the Abu Dhabi circuit. He wants to demonstrate how safe it is. He claims that if you fell you would simply slide to the bottom. He feels so strongly about this he is willing to use he daughter to test the theory. He drops her. At first she slides, but then the angle becomes too steep and she begins to tumble. haas exploiting the wind tunnel loophole was 100% to benefit ferrari's 2016 aero via testing as many parts as they like rather than to benefit haas in any meaningful way, as those 70 ferrari employees who were briefly on the haas payroll are not in any way shape or form involved with the design of the haas car.
