i remember playing football in high school. it was a really small and new school, and our football team was garbage. we lost every game by at least 3 touchdowns all 4 years i played. we sucked, but it was still fun. after every game, our coaches made us go thank the fans. we'd take off our helmets, put our arms around each other, and sing the school alma mater with the fans after the game. one game my senior year, we were playing away at some school across town. we lost, and we were getting ready to sing to the fans. as we were walking over, one of the refs came over and said we needed to clear off the field now. our coaches tried to explain we had a tradition with thanking the fans. the refs just said "this isn't pop warner little league football anymore. there's no need for that. please clear out soon so we can prepare the field for tomorrow morning."
i guess my point is that my brand new, tiny, middle of bumfuck nowhere high school football team that went 0-36 my 4 years on it was told that staying after to thank the fans in an organized fashion like that wasn't for a high school-level team. leave that to the lesser teams who need the "hey you tried, great job guys!!!" motivation.

It's not even a controversial thing for me to say, since there have been so many threads about it, and anyone saying otherwise is a Liverpool fan.
