Friendly reminder that if your team has not won a WS this century, then it's irrelevant trash.

Not for a good while. Ilitch is almost 90 and probably near death. That's the only reason he was willing to dump buckets of money to top players. Trying to win a WS before he dies. The problem is that he has now handcuffed the team with Cabrera into his early 40s when he will be much fatter and his production will fall off, yet he will still command a ton of money that no one will be willing to take on in a trade situation. I assume his family will have control and probably take a more controlled position on spending for talent. They'll be competitive in the ALC, but won't win a WS.
>>64185644

Cabrera's only 32, he'll be productive for another 3 years and then be a solid DH, albeit expensive.

>>64187262
Yeah, by the end of his contract he'll be 40/41. When is the last time an organization was dumb enough to give 30M/year to a DH? Not to mention that he's entering the age territory even now where production slows down. I highly doubt he'll be at 36-37 putting up a .300/30+HR/100RBI stat line.
>>64187262
Cabrera is probably one of the best hitters of our generation. But yes the backend of that contract is cringeworthy.

is it usual for young starting pitchers to make league minimum in their contracts for the first several years of their career?
>>64200063
>is it usual
Not just usual but absolutely followed by every team is major league baseball.
It isn't until their arbitration year that they get a raise... Through arbitration.
Nobody is going to give some 20 year old fuck a contract with less than 600 innings pitched. Not just pitchers but all players.
The only exception that I could think of at the top of my head is Mike Trout who makes above league minimum. He signed a 6 year 150m contract with just 3 seasons in the league.
The most funny example of this is
Madison Bamgarner who got a slight raise on his 500k salary after 2014 even though he's guaranteed a contract of at least 200m dollars next season.
>>64200004
I'm an Indians fan. The last WS I saw my team in was when they had the lead in game 7 and instead of leaving in Brian Anderson who had thrown a shutout innings in the 8th, they bring in goddamn fat Mexican't Jose Mesa who blows the goddamn save and hands the Series to Dave Brown, Charles Johnson, and the goddamn Florida Marlins.
>>64200362

>Did you watch Game 1 of the 2013 NLDS? Have you ever seen any pitcher dominate a game like Kershaw did against the Braves?
Kershaw's game score in Game 1 of the 2013 NLDS, against the Braves, was 76, with an era of 1.29 and 12 Ks.
Lincecum's game score in Game 1 of the 2010 NLDS, also against the Braves, was 96, with an era of 0.00 and 14 Ks. It ranks in the top 5 of all postseason pitching performances of all time, and is the second-best 9-inning postseason game ever pitched, just behind Clemens' 2000 ALCS Game 4 masterpiece.
Halladay's incredible NLDS no-hitter one day earlier earned a 94 game score, to put that in perspective.
>>64218377
Bro even i am a big Lincecum fan and that 14k game 1 was a masterpiece but not a top 5 pitching performance
>>64219244
I'm just saying that it's among the top 5 highest postseason game scores of all time. I wasn't ranking games subjectively.
>>64220017
Game score is good in theory and it works most of the time, but it doesn't get them all right.
For instance, Klubers 18K's ranks even with Arrieta's 11K no-hitter*** and Heston's no-no where he hit 4 batters.
I don't need the formula to know that Kluber's game was superior to those 2, even if he did only got to 24 outs.

Sox don't have the pitching to contend next year IMO. The Royals should still be good but this offseason their offense, bullpen, and leadership have taken hits. The Twins meanwhile will be scrappy, and the Tigers and White Sox are both in denial of their ability to compete

It happened to Chris Archer
Irregular reminder that Josh Hancock, a pitcher for the highly classy St. Louis Cardinals, was killed in an accident while:
-twice the legal blood alcohol limit
-in possession of marijuana
-not wearing a seatbelt
-texting
-doing 68 in a 55
-at night
-striking a tow truck off the road
-after having been involved in an accident 3 days earlier and almost skipping a game
And that his parents responded by suing literally everyone including the driver of the broken down car the tow truck was stopped to help

De Fratus/Bass/Rasmussen/Guaipe/Rollins/Martin/Aro/Montgomery/???
The OF structure is heavily dependent upon Gutierrez being healthy. So it's going to rotate a lot. But mostly it seems far better than it was this season.
The IF is almost set with SS having a bit of depth with Marte, Taylor, and Sardinas (who will probably start in AAA). He said Lind will be heavily platooned at 1st against RHP, along with Montero for LHP. I'm wishing they can get a new backup 1B instead of Montero.
They need more SP depth. Right now they rely on Nuno swinging over to be a SP if Paxton has more fluke injuries and he's far more effective as relief. I'd really like if they made Montgomery a relief pitcher so that he can still be on the team and switch over if it needs to happen.
