What's even the point of the group and knockout stages?
>>
Just glad Barcelona and Bayern took it easy today, no need to risk injuries against lesser teams like neverkusen with memerito and all the assblasted mexicans
>>
Honestly Real cock it up at times, that's sort of entertaining. Apart from that the meme club often becomes /sp/'s team

let's hope for Zenit

The only weird things about it are Lyon over Madrid and Liverpool over Chelsea.

Lyon had a great team in the mid 00s that won the league like 8 straight times while Madrid were just a bunch of old overpaid geezers.

And Benitez's Liverpool were always Mourinho's bogey team in Europe. In Mourinho's 3 CL campaigns during his 1st Chelsea stint he got directly eliminated by Liverpool 2 times, and 1 time he finished behind Liverpool in the group stage which caused him to draw Barcelona and get eliminated by them. 10/10 on keked scale if you ask me

>>
>>64118724
>In the 2005 - 2010 period it'd be Milan, Chelsea and Liverpool
Barcelona won it 2 times and made 2 further semis appearances in that period. not sure how you can not include them
>>
Who's the most dominant club now from 2005-2015? Id say its Barcelona since they reached half of the last 10 finals and 7-8 semi appearances
>>
My take on the lack of parity is most top-class players lack competitive drive. They would rather play with their buddies on the likes of a Bayern or Barca, cruising to an easy league title on a super team, and only have to really try in the Champions League. There's less incentive to play for an English team because you have to scrap for points week in week out.

The money doesn't hurt either.
>>
>>64118860

It's not about Messi and Ronaldo. The problem is that almost every world-class player is in either Barça, Madrid or Buyern

So if we look at semis we have

Players would rather play in Spain because the pace of the game is slower, it's more technical and skills-oriented and you don't have to run as much. English football largely consists of players running into each other and sprinting about in the rain. It's more fun to watch, but you have fewer opportunities to showcase your skills.
>>
>>64120527

You forgot to mention how muscular/physical everyone is in the BPL. Twinklets barely stand a chance unless they are supremely skilled on the ball.
>>
>>64120584

But that's true for every league. What's the point in fielding a weak, 1.70m tall manlet who can't pass or dribble past anyone?

01: Bayern, Valencia, Leeds, Madrid
02: Bayern, Barcelona, Madrid, ManU
03: Real, Juve, Inter, Milan
04: Monaco, Chelsea, Porto, Deportivo
05: Chelsea, Liverpool, Eindhoven, Milan
06: Villareal, Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona
07: Milan, ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool

I do think the problem is this Missi-Donaldo duality, not only are they ruining la liga but the CL too, when both retire and new stars that are a step below them arrive we will have better parity again.

Also, the CL really needs a strong PL and Serie A to be thrilling, as the competition is just as strong as the domestic leagues nurture it.

>>64120607
Valencia, Deportivo and Villareal man.... Thats impossible now in la liga. The big 3 are way ahead of the rest.
>>
Everyone focuses on what made Barcelona, Madrid and Bayern so good but I think the bigger issue is what happened to all their competition. EPL teams going full retard on the transfer market and the massive decline of Serie A are much more responsible for Barca, Bayern and Real dominating than anything those 3 teams did. If United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Juventus, Milan, Inter etc were able to maintain their level then we'd just have 3 teams that are the best in the world and a bunch of teams that are right behind them. With how easy it is for a small upset to happen we wouldn't be seeing Barca, Bayern and Real in every single CL semi if EPL and Serie A remained at their 00s level
>>
>>64121232
>Thats impossible now in la liga

This is literally a lie. Barcelona got 61m for last season's edition while Juventus got close to 90m and that's not even counting the added match day revenue and potential sponsorship deals from increased club prestige. I seriously doubt "bonuses for winning the CL" cost them more than 60m

It's not hard to figure out why. England was at it's strongest for a long while 2004-2010, and during that time English teams did well
>>
>>64121665
>England was at it's strongest for a long while 2004-2010, and during that time English teams did well
The NT stopped being good in 2006, just as the EPL became the best league in the world. We literally failed to qualify for Euro in the same year there was an all English CL final and right in the middle of 3 consecutive years of 3 English CL semi finalists
>>
>>64121692
The NT stopped being good because the FA was fucking retarded. We still had prime Terry, Ferdinand, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham (sort of), Rooney, Neville, Carragher, King, Cole

All of whom were key parts of the English teams dominating Europe.

The only English team struggling in Europe, Arsenal, had no core of great English players. Not a coincidence
>>
>>64118724
Between 2005-2010, Man United made 3 semi finals and 2 finals.
>>
>>64121706
The only world class players who were in their prime in 06-10 were Terry, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole and maybe Rooney.

Beckham was already collecting retirement pension in the MLS, Scholes was on the decline and was barely even starting the majority of United games, Neville blew out his knee in 07 and was never the same, same with King and Carragher was never a world class player.
>>
>>64121450
Why are you taking out the calculator when talking about the CL? There's something money can't buy, prestige, just go ask City.

I just don't understand what you are trying to say here, is it better finishing 20th in the epl than winning in the CL? Not even a spastic would say this, money or not involved.

Finally, getting deep in the competition brings sponsors, branding, advertising, even foreign supporters with $ when games happen, cities change a lot with CL games as it's also an opportunity to make a visit to your neighbours. You are seriously underrating the impact the biggest club competition in the world has.

Tell me where is the prestige in winning the league in which 2 teams takes half the tv money?
>>
>>64121753
Scholes had a second career peak in 2006 and was in fantastic form.

Between 2006-2010, Rooney was definitely world class.
>>
>>64121791
>There's something money can't buy, prestige

barca and RM have been buying it for fucking years m8, what you on about?
>>
>>64121841
Thought we were talking about the CL, in any case I never said the state of the TV deals here was good and never will as long as it continues like this.

We are trying to make it better though, a law has passed where the % for lower ranked teams was going up, it's true that Real and Barça are still getting much more than the rest though.

So they don't spend hundreds of millions on players? More than any other team on earth? Money they haven't even fucking got.

Don't see much difference in prestige between being funded by an oligarch or spanish corruption. I hate United but at least they make their own money.
>>
>>64122009
They do, many teams do it, but money won't guarantee you success, a competent team, manager and club board will, check City and PSG, Inter was for decades the richest club in Serie A and they got little to show off, United is, supposedly according to all the pics I see here, the richest team of England and right now they are the only english team that hasn't make it to Ro16. Messi's transfer was 0 (zero) dollaridoos.

Money won't make you a strong name, or better your coefficient, getting deep in competitions will.
>>
>>64122142
>Money won't make you a strong name, or better your coefficient,

thats exactly what chelsea did though

city are just incredibly incompetent, but sooner or later they'll come good.

I see this meme spammed a lot. Is there any actual proof of Real and Barcelona being by the government in an illegal way?
>>

Not anymore. Try sixty years ago

Madrid especially have a very cosy relationship with Bankia.

can wolfsburg be a candidate for meme club of the year
>>
>>64122207

Well I certainly can't prove it in a 4chan post. Remember reading detailed pieces about money movement between Real and the city of Madrid. How Barca actually works I don't know but obviously the transfer of Neymar is an example of conscious deceit.
>>
>>64122142
It doesn't matter that Barca didn't buy Messi, if he wasn't in a team with such economic power he wouldn't stay there.Even Chelsea or City can't afford to pay his wages.
Also no other team in the world can spent so much for one player like Barca and Real do.
When City, Chelsea, PSG, United and Inter start buying the best players for 100mil euros, we will see how the Spanish teams can cope.
>>
>>64122207
There's nothing with Barça, Real on the other hand I think everyone knows those two fishy deals. First they sold their training camps to the community for a lot of dosh, admitedly the training center was in the most expensive part of the city but still.

The other thing is that they had a 100kk€ loan from a big bank from here to buy CR, the bank argued that they gave loans to Real because they know they can pay them back + interests.... but still

>When City, Chelsea, PSG, United and Inter start buying the best players for 100mil euros, we will see how the Spanish teams can cope.
City, United and PSG have starting XIs that are more expensive than Barcelona's (even if we assume the most expensive version of the Neymar deal at 120m)
>>
>>64122680
You certainly mean through transfers cause messi is worth these 3 teams combined.
Still as we saw with Tottenham a 100mil player is actually worth more to the team than 15 players worth 10mil.

Is Zenet going to be the meme club of the year?
>>
>>64121059
Ronaldo has been shit this whole year, yet Madrid still got to semi finals and this year it seems they'll do it too, unless they face Barça or Buyern before that.

Hell, even in La Décima Ronaldo was shit. He just suddenly disappears. If Madrid is always in semi finals is because all the players they have.

And look at Barça. Messi was injured untill two weeks ago and they still raped every team they faced.
>>
>>64121279
>right behind the two
Hell no. It's all since Simeone. Barça and Madrid used to finish with 20+ points than the third one, and that third one wouldn't even be Atlético.

I don't think you realize the magnitude of Simeone's work, and I'm not saying that just because he's argie and "Muh country"
>>
one of the main reasons why i barely watch the CL anymore

the competition needs the English and Italian clubs to become strong again
maybe City can provide some actual competition this year

>>64122207
The teams are so popular that if a bank tries to claim back the money it lent them, and if that causes the club to go bankrupt (which it would if they demanded it all back at once), all the fans would boycott that bank and the bank would go out of business too. It's not worth it to the banks.

Much better than it was a few years ago lad, in that 2009-2012 period it looked like no team other than Barcelona would win it every year, their odds to win it every time were ridiculous and it was a miracle they only won it 2 of 4. At least now they have Bayern to contend with which while not great is better.
>>
>>64126993
This, basically the generation of Spanish players 2006-2012, most of which were distributed between Barca and Madrid, was way too good compared to everything else.

Something similar could be said of the germans right now but they don't seem to like winning that much. I thought after the 12-13 final that a new era of Nazi overlords was upon us but then Dortmund collapsed and no other german has stepped up to Bayern's level.

Who cares about > muh parity anyway?

The games between the Big 3 are GOAT each year, they are truly the highest, most developed form of football ever in history, and still fun as fuck to watch

They are also pretty varied

e.g Bayern raping Barca 7-0 in 2013, then Messi totally keking Pep and Bayern in 2015
>>
>>64127319
That's not really surprising when your entire league exists just to prop up one team

do you know what GOAT means?
