are they, dare I say, the new Real Madrid?

At least Madrid gets to the semis before getting BTFO

Nah, Madrid usually buys good players

Madrid is entertaining with world class players. United is just boring with literally who squad. DeGea is only player worth giving a toss about.

Smalling and de Gea are great, Mata is decent and Martial will be good in a few seasons.

europa league, FA cup and top 4 are realistic ambitions for utd these days, they had literally zero chance of winning the CL and very very little chance of wining the prem, in other words they are where they should be now

again, because they play in a very defensive and conservative system with two defensive midfielders where they absolutely have to keep possession even if that means sacrifying chance creation, something they're fucking 20th in the league
absolutely shameful for a ยฃ250m team

I could have told you manure plastics that LVG was a joke. I was there to watch his Netherlands side containing legends like Kluivert, Overmars, Zenden, Van Der Sar, Stam and Cocu, humbled and eliminated from the world cup by a mediocre Ireland team who were down to 10 men for over half an hour. At least his dutch side dominated possession that day.

LVG turns great players into shit. Di Maria never stood a chance. Martial does not stand a chance. Manchester United are finished.

>>64104747
>They also sold about ยฃ150m
for real? who they've sold in the last years? chicharito, RvP, evans, welbeck, cleverley, rafael, who else?
>>
>>64104772
Don't worry, everyone wants to forget that 0-0 borefest
>>
>>64104719
the problem is di Maria and Falcao didn't live up to expectations and Rooney declined rapidly

---------------Falcao-----------------
di Maria----Rooney-----Mata

in their peaks, these players were the best in their positions in the world
>>
>>64104781
Chicharito is styling hard
Di Maria under better guidance could have worked so well
RVP is old but surely a better option than Rooney

>>64104788
Di Maria
Kagawa
Evra
Nani
Lindegaard
Probably some more I'm forgetting
>>
>>64104772
>someone invested their money even worse so it's okay
>>
>>64104772
>including wages in the price
Do you need reminding of how much was splashed out on Falcao's wages last season?
>>
>>64104806
so what you're saying now is the team moyes built is better than the one van gaal built, despite him making a ยฃ100m loss in the transfer market
>>
>>64104788
literally everyone
you already listed about 50 million worth

di maria obviously, that's 40 million

buttner
evra
vidic
kagawa
zaha
bebe
macheda
etc.
>>
>>64104804

----------------- De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Blind - Shaw
-------------- Schneiderlin
------- Herrera ------- Schweinsteiger
Mata --------- Martial -------- Di Maria

What could have been.
>>
>>64104806
yeah, ยฃ150m is believable now that you've reminded me of di maria
>>
>>64104826
No because LVG made some good signings too.
>>
>>64104804
Except that Di Maria peaked as a CM in a 4-3-3, Mata peaked as a CAM, Falcao was always a meme player styling on shit teams and running away from CL and Rooney is just Rooney.

This strike force wouldn't even be top 3 in the world
>>
>>64104841
So Moyes got better results out of a worse team?

>Moyes is literally a better manager than Van Laal
>>
>>64104816
Pretty sure everyone included Falcao's 'wages' in the 250 million.

Even although the total cost United spent on Falcao was ยฃ6 million.

ยฃ6 million that was paid to Monaco, who would in turn continue paying 100% of Falcao's tax-free wages.

United never paid any of Falcao's wages, technically.

And btw. City pay 5 players (potentially 7 now with De Browna and Sterling) more than Falcao was being paid.
>>
>>64104849
Well he did inherit the literal champions mate
>>
>>64104826
moyes gave rooney a 5 years contract, you can't do worse than that
>>
>>64104852
This is completely untrue

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/02/radamel-falcao-joins-manchester-united-loan
>>
>>64104807
No, it's not.

But it's not okay for the media to wank themselves into a coma over the prospect of MANCHESTER UNITED wasting money whereas they never mention it when City or Chelsea do the same or worse.

It's one rule for United, another rule for everyone else.

>City spend 100 million on 2 players
Wow. Incredible day for football. Eye-watering amount of money. Investment blah blah blah

>United spend significantly less on 2 players
HOLY FUCKING SHIT. ARE THEY MAD? WOW. HOLY FUCK. WELL... THEY BETTER FUCKING LIVE UP TO THAT PRICE OR ELSE IT WILL BE A MASSIVE FARCE!!!

Totally different perspectives. You'd think that the British media and public all are shareholders in Manchester United and that it DIRECTLY effects them the way they talk about it.
>>
>>64104846
positions don't matter

di maria was the arguably the best player in the world when united signed him, he was up there with messi and ronaldo and nobody else came close
falcao, not even going to entertain your 'opinion' he was clearly the best striker in the world for 2-3 years. an absolute beast. as good as fat ronaldo even.
Peak Rooney was 2nd best player in the world and 2006-2012 Rooney was probably the 3rd-5th best player in the world
and Mata with Chelsea was the best 10 ever seen and ever likely to see, he literally carried them to 80% of their victories

so yeah, you're full of shit m8
>>
>>64104320
The last time the Germans decided to kill some Belgians, they got their country split in two for more than 45 years.

The English got off a bit too easy desu.
>>
>>64104877
>the guardian
Yeah, it's wrong as well you fucking moron. Check the company accounts which are publicly available. Monaco are still paying Falcao weekly wages all throughout his year with United.
>>
>>64104804
>di Maria
Guys exactly what Man Utd are missing. He actually tried to make things happen. He played shit but was their best player.
>>
>>64104914
I'll admit that first post was decent bait, you got me there but that one is way too obvious.

5/10 bait though, got me to seriously respond to the first one
>>
>>64104929
Under a different manager he could have worked really well. LVG was limiting him with this possession bullshit.

Di Maria's start at Utd was just brilliant. That goal v Leicester, damn.
>>
>>64104880
It's probably got something to do with
>hurr we're man yoo we bring through yoof and we don't spend money to win leagues
>>
>>64104915

No m8 they killed 6 gorillion and didn't even get banned from european football.

UEFA ABE as fuck.
>>
If you can't see how LvG has improved the team since Moyes then you're a fucking idiot.

Under Moyes, every team thought they could win at Old Trafford. Teams like West Brom and Stoke were going for the win.

Now they fear them and park the bus. Says it all.

Sure 0-0s are dull, but that's the fault of BOTH teams. Not just Manchester United. It takes 2 teams to make a great football match. Last night you saw an example of this.
>>
>>64104935
>Di Maria's start at Utd was just brilliant
always the same story, players start well then 10 matches later they've been successfully van gaalized
>>
>>64104989
Yep

Happening with Martial too
>>
>>64104969
yeah and that's out of fear that pardew said "you stop martial, you stop manchester united"
>>
>>64104929
>>64104935
I think the truth is inbetween.

1. di Maria wasn't good enough for the physical EPL. He was used to using his pace to fly past shit-tier defenders in La Liga, but as soon as he tried that against the likes of West Ham and Stoke he simply got muscled out.

2. LvG's strict possession football didn't suit his style. Limiting him and causing him psychological issues.
>>
>>64104969
Moyes could get out of a CL group
Van Laal couldn't

In his own word Man U are worse now than they were under Moyes
>>
>>64104969
you're a twat if you go into an away game against a team that parks the bus and plays counter attacking football AT HOME and try to dominate the game. Home team generally dictates the openness of the game, if you play for draws at home, you'll get draws at home - nobody will turn down a free draw at old trafford, not even man city
>>
>>64105016
Ferguson fucked it up a year after they got to the final. Also in 2005/06.
>>
>>64101735
>are they, dare I say, the new Real Madrid?
If this continues for 12 years, then yes
>>
>>64105034
so you're saying moyes is a better manager than ferguson?
>>
>>64105030
I'm not sure I understand your point.
I don't notice any difference in the way Manchester United set up to play at home versus how they set up to play away. It's the exact same game-plan every game.

>Defensively solid
>Very compact
>Give the opponents nothing
>Have 70% possession
>Keep the ball at all costs
>Don't take too many risks
>Pass, pass, pass
>Eventually, there will be an opening created for a through-ball
>Martial (or whoever) better fucking take that chance because we're not getting another one for at least 20 minutes
Repeat.
>>
>>64105034
>Ferguson fails to get out of the group stage 2 times in 27 years at the club
>comparable to van Laal failing at his first attempt in a shit group
>>
>>64105067
I'm saying van Gaal isn't shit just because he didn't get out the groupstage.
>>
>>64105104
You're right. There are many reason why he is shitter than moyes, not least his league cup record
>>
I have absolute faith in LvG.

The football we played last season in 2015 was wonderful. When we beat City, Liverpool, Spurs, Villa in a row and scored 3-4 goals in each of them. Oh and Liverpool.

That Fellaini, Young, Herrera triangle. It was brilliant with Blind/Shaw supporting out wide. We played some great football.

With the investments we made in the summer, I thought for sure we'd challenge for the league and we are, kind of, but not in the way I expected.

Luke Shaw was a major blow. He was one of our best players.

I think we'll challenge for the league this year. 2nd at worst.
>>
>>64105090
the absolute lack of risk infers that they are playing not to lose, when you are away this is fine because the home team generally presses for a victory and opens up the game. If you are the home team this does not happen, so basically the way man utd are playing van gaal is saying that he is happy with that kind of 0-0 draw at home every game. Any manager going to old trafford will quite happily let this happen
>>
>>64105331
Except that's patently wrong, because LvG is visibly annoyed and frustrated when games finish 0-0. It's a myth that LvG plays to not lose as opposed to plays to win. Obviously he wants to win. Obviously he sets out to win.

And no, managers don't 'let it happen' they go all out to ENSURE that it happens by packing the defense and midfield and playing only one up top (if that). It's a clear and direct strategy that says "Well, there's no way in hell we're going to win this game. United are a far better team than us. Our best hope is to sit back and hope for the best. It's all we've got. It's the only play we've got. Let's defend and with a bit of luck we'll scrape a point."

And that's the exact same mentality City had as well.

Under Moyes? Not a chance this would happen. Teams would be going for the win. They could smell blood.
>>
>>64105393
LvG's problem is that he expects Young, Lingard, Pereira, Januzaj, Memphis, Rooney etc. to do what Messi, Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar do. To produce miracles and magic out of thin air that wins games single-handed.
>>
>>64105393
if he wanted to win he would not start two holding midfielders everytime
he did that even against the likes of newcastle, crystal palace, swansea etc...
>>
>>64105393
>old dutch man looks angry so he must not like the inevitable outcome of the style of football he plays
thats just his resting face m8

also against west ham, a mid table team with a leaky defence, at home, he literally started the game with 6 defenders and a holding midfielder

do you not see a problem with that?
>>
>>64102745
underrated post desu
>>
>>64105549
And who should he start? Herrera is injured, no other options
>>
>>64105823
firstly, thats his fault for having no depth, secondly, there are other options like he could play two wingers, two forwards and mata in some sort of insane four four two or something
>>
Any actual United fans here?

I am disappointed that we are out of the CL but honestly our performances are getting better.

Genuinely expect us to win the league.
>>
>>64105870
>two wingers, two forwards and mata
It would be very hard to defend on counter
>>
>>64105904
Last match we had to attack so it's kinda an anomaly.

The rest of the season could be fun, it's like there's nothing to lose. There's no CL and nobody expects us to win the title. Anything is positive from here.
>>
>>64104132
The peak of bundesliga was in the 80s, not that Bayern - Dortmund final. I know it's long gone, but your peak is history too now
>>
>>64105968
you can't really call it a peak when english clubs were banned from europe at that time.
>>
>>64105904
>but honestly our performances are getting better.
Not really. Our defence only looks good when we play ultra conservative football with 2 defensive midfielders passing the ball in our own half 90% of the time and our attack almost never looks good.

Can we win the league? Sure, why not. But even if we do, it won't mean much since the league is at its worst since the mid 90s. This year's title challengers would be mid table teams in 05-10
>>
>>64105968
79 to 84 bundes was the best? english teams dominated then
>>
>>64106021
Huh, why not? I'm just saying that that ware the best times Bundesliga had, not the recent Bayern domination
>>
>>64105968
>80's
>Bundesliga

Villa and Forest would like a word m8
>>
>>64106055
The chart that doesn't mean anything because England's coefficients were completely fucked due to getting banned from the CL at that time.

In reality, bundesliga did absolutely nothing in the 80s.
>>
>>64106055
>>64106104
Actually England was banned in 85, so Bundesliga being first in the UEFA coefficient from 79 to 84 does mean something
>>
>>64106150
>first when England were dominating
>>

??

You have a point in that it was a pretty good time for bundesliga with multiple competitive teams, but let's be real here. England was the dominant nation from the 70s right up until the ban. The chart really doesn't mean much in regards to that era.
>>
>>64106199
There were also two other european cups back then. Obviously overall Bundfesliga performed best, the UEFA coefficient is based on the performance of all clubs participating
