Judging by last thread, it might be too much to ask to support an offseason /mls/ thread to the post limit, but let's try anyways.

People fly flags that are basically imperial German flags at United games.

I went there with a German guy and a military guy who was stationed at Germany and they were saying: 'Do they know what that flag means?'

Because it can work, they just need to not market towards the Hispanics. They made that mistake with Chivas USA, but they won't again.

I'm disappointed they aren't getting a team in, say, St. Louis or Charlotte, but I'm sure they'll expand in or near there in the future if there is interest. A St. Louis-Kansas City regular game would be awesome.

So what are the four places most likely to be expanded towards with the next 4 spots?

List of possible spots off the top of my head, in no particular order:

Sacramento
St. Louis
Charlotte
Indianapolis
Austin? (a few people are slinging this around but I'm not convinced)
San Antonio? (same feeling with Austin, not sure)
Detroit? (May find it hard to back the $200 million being required by the league)
>>
So its official, TAM is the new meme currency/rule

Sac, St. Louis, and San Antonio seem like a lock.

I'd like to know whether this is why it only had 53% support or whether that was due to lingering red paranoia or what.

I was wondering whether that was the case too, yeah. Also would be interesting to know whether the MLS-affiliated teams made up any of that 53% or whether those players are subject to the MLS Players' Union or what.

A bit murky here, but I should think that anyone who isn't on a contract with the first team (and therefore under the umbrella of MLS's union and CBA) should be eligible for this

>>
>>64123866
They think they have the potential to be, and it's a bid they probably have to make to stop teams jumping ship to MLS as soon as they get a soccer stadium. Right now they're not even D2 without waivers for number of teams and timezones.

Anyone claiming NASL is D1 quality right now is just le epic bantz.
>>
>>64123870
They're not suing for D1 status, they're saying that they may sue in the future if USSF changes the D1 rules to suit MLS. Right now, there has been no rules change, and so no lawsuit.
>>
>>64123909
>They can't have it both ways
you expect them to risk financial stability by overpaying players rather than growing organically?
>>
>>64124047
NASL should probably implement some minimum standards, though. Before they were sold, the San Antonio Scorpions apparently had most of their players on 8-month contracts with no healthcare. The owner was cutting costs wherever he could to direct money to his charity foundation, and it meant a work situation that shouldn't be acceptable in professional sports.
>>
>>64124047
I expect that if they want to be "D1 quality" to spend money becoming D1 quality.
Buying a Past-his-prime Raul, Senna or Maicon Santos and then buying players you literally give 200 a week to play for you isn't helping league quality.
>>
>>64124164
You're comparing different strategies across teams, though. Cosmos are pursuing the model they've always used, signing washed-up superstars to fill seats, and hoping it won't destroy the league this time around. Other teams are trying to get away with treating NASL like a semi-pro league.

NASL currently gives these owners the freedom to try different things, which helps differentiate them from MLS. That'll probably change as a result of the USL union. Either the league will implement minimum requirements, or players will unionize and work out a CBA. Peterson has said any CBA that has a minimum salary will also include a salary cap, though.

Yeah its not like hes focused on 1 year of results either, i like how he wants everyone to work as one Towards the brand, playstyle and he wants to make the most of the academy, looking forward to how this team will look for next season

It could literally never be in the South

I already said that definition of southernhood had grown past that

And your opinion is already worthless
>>

>implying Wikipedia invalidates historical facts

Just follow the citations.

The Mason-Dixon line is only one arbitrary measure by which the boundaries of the Southern states may be drawn. It doesn't even match the borders of the Confederacy, which itself does not encompass all Southern states.

While DC itself is not culturally a "Southern" city, it is located physically in the South, and certainly DC United's catchment area includes Virginia, which is unquestionably a Southern state.
