Who is the greatest Goalkeeper of all time, and why?
For me it is Gigi Buffon.
He has just been so good, for so long, he won a world cup, he's an amazing shot stopper, as well as my inspiration to become a goal keeper.
lot of goalkeepers have been very good/had great records, but I think I agree with you about Buffon being the best
joe hart
If your answer isn't Lev Yashin you don't know shit about soccer.

Buffon

nice trips Satan
anyway at Yashin's time goalkeepers were fucking terrible, the fact he stood out doesn't really mean much
Buffon is the only correct answer

but yeah nah Buffon is the best.
>>64063666

I hate these hipster answers, just like Pélé. You can't compare today's football with those ancient times.
Plus, you're probably some 20-something faggot who didn't even live through their time.
>>64063643
Why do you think that? He's been terrible at world cups, very overrated imo.
Vardy
1. Nóia
2. Buffon
3. Schmeichel
Buffon is the coolest though.

Some meme-metric comparing how many goals does a team suffer when a GK is playing to how many goals it suffers when he isn't.
Which fails to account for how good the team's reserve goalkeeper is. Still pretty interesting.
>>64063605
Taffarel
What about Rogerio Ceni? He just retired but this dude was an absolute legend
>>64064107
eh.
He was a 7.5 in his prime, but that was over a decade ago. Not even top 5 brazilian keepers in the past 30 years (Marcos, Taffarel, Carlos Germano, Júlio César, Diego Alves, Hélton, Dida, all better than him at actually goalkeeping instead of taking meme-FKs).
He's been total shit for like 5 years.
Casillas
1 world cup
2 eurocups
3 UCL
5 ligas
2 copas del rey
>>64064230
Casillas has always been a system babby, playing in teams with unlimited money/talent and even then he managed to be the weak link at times.
Stat padding != skill
Buffon was actually the strongest/top3 player in each of the teams he's played in and a most definitely a difference maker.
>>64064288
>at times.
At any time after 2010.
Fuck's sake, Allah Merdrid would've won last season's La Liga and keked Barça's treble if Topor hadn't personally costed them 12-15pts.
Buffon is a great keeper but he has always been in the shadow of Iker.

Buffon could've probably moved to Barca and keked iker 24/7 for the next 10 years but decided to stick with his team when it got relegated, took pay cuts and helped them rebuilding all the way to the CL final.
Again, stat padding != skill.

What does this have to do with anything, Ramon?
You guys are making it sound like Casillas should be considered GOAT solely because he won more titles and I''ve been merely reminding you that Buffon could've moved to literally ANY big team in Europe when Juve sunk because of the fixing scandal and won just as many cups as Iker.
Besides, it's a retarded argument no matter how you look at it.
>>64064422

>>64064466
not to mention, Kahn, Zoff and Schmeichel were better GK's than Casillas by a long shot.
>>64064402
Iker shits over Buffon any day of the week? Italy and Juve have historically been defensive sides while RM have had attacking minded players in their back four, i.e. Ramos who's half a WB playing CB and Marcelo who thinks he's a winger
If anyone was stat padding it was Buffon
Schmeichel

No, Messi doesn't have a world cup, but Pirlo does. Does that mean Pirlo is better than Messi?
Don't get me wrong Pirlo is world class, but simply because he has a world cup does not make him a better player than somebody else.

i always thought buffon was a fucking amazing keeper.
then i started watching Serie A. any mistakes he made were practically forgotten by the media before the final whistle of the game. also found that most people who were sucking his dick were just repeating what they heard from others or were basing it on a couple of matches they've seen him in.
its not that he was bad. he was still fucking great. but the way the media whitewashed and/or quickly forgot his lesser performance and mistakes made me question peoples consensus on him. it became all the more evident how peoples opinions are affected by the media when people started chewing on casillas in his final years at madrid.
hes definitely in highest tier of keepers in history though.
>>64064645
REEEEEEEEEE
>>64064766
Buffon underperformed as hell in the late 00s and early 10s.
He only regained his form a couple years ago and he's still not what he was from 99 until Calciopoli.
But he's still GOAT regardless.
>>64064610
It's actually the opposite, nigga

Buffon in 2006 is the best GK of all time though

pretty debatable. his world cup was great, but first half of his year is marred by the scandal and the second half he spent in serie b conceding once every other game or so against garbage opponents.
But buffon is a greasy italian mobster.
Iker didn't have an able deputy
Robben would easily take the ball past Valdes or Reina in a 1v1 situation
Buffon's best games came before the final
>>64065048
Please he had one good game, meanwhile he's extremely average in the prem and Hart is goating it up winning titles left, right and centre and single handedly winning a duel against Messi in the CL

>You can't compare today's football with those ancient times.
yea, humans were biologically diferent then. they surely could not adapt to today's game.
if you are to bash the vintage football choices, do it simply because the people choosing them nowadays didn't watch them. doing it because 'hurr, football was too different then' is dumb and assumes that these great players, who often had impressive technique (you can't take that off them) and natural fitness, could not adapt to higher pace and pressing.
but like in music, people's perception is highly influenced by novelty, and looking back, most of that is washed out, thus making antique football look bad. but you have to be specially stupid and entitled to think people were impressed by their quality for no reason.
football's had sensitive changes, but not so many changes. it looks better now, but that's due to speed and coordination, only.
bad players could get used to that.
talented and intelligent players would have no hard time playing today.
be it pelé or yashin.
>>64065123
Goalkeeper is the most error prone position in football, you could put together one of these videos for every keeper on earth, including the current best kepper Neuer, there would probably be one for Howard if he was at all relevant.
