True, but generally fans can have a hard time caring about a team in MLS if they're in a city without a team (like Miami) or if their city's team is so obviously foreign that they might as well support a team in a different country (like New York with Red Bulls and NYCFC). Personally, I'm a fan of Chicago and an EPL team, I just don't see a lot of other soccer fans in the US doing the same thing. You're more likely to see a guy wearing Barcelona gear in a US city than the gear of any MLS team.

USASA is technically 4th. They sponsor the NPSL. They might sponsor the PDL too, but I think that's more of a USL affiliate.
Anyways, the whole 4th division are amateur teams and any distinction of levels between them is made up and not official according to the USSF.

I was saying this recently in an MLS thread.. I got a few responses, the summation was essentially that people didn't see why this was something their teams should bother with. It's kind of hard to explain to people just how rewarding it is for your team to develop their own player who goes on to win games for you. It's so much more appealling than buying a player.
