Writing a long piece is fine...if it's packed with consistent, fresh information. Not regurgitating the same thesis over and over. If you want to gauge a writer's talent, read their opening and closing paragraphs/pages. If they talk about the same things, with a fuckhuge 'story' in the middle, they need better editing.
