There are people on this board that do nut understand the concept of a decoy game or series of games. I'm not saying the Patriots threw the game, but it's possible they weren't really trying to win.
Think about it, losing to the Broncos doesn't hurt their chances at all for a seed in the playoffs. Knowing that, the Patriots played to trick the future playoff opponents into preparing for faux weaknesses.
Do you really think Tom Brady getting held to 24 points is legitimate? It would very easy for the offensive line to just play like shit on purpose, without making it obvious causing the rest of the league to prepare thinking they are going against a struggling O Line.
Same goes for the defense. Detroit exploited the same soft coverage/wide open middle of the field that the Packers did. The defense didn't look much worse than against the Packers. Now everyone is going to gameplan their offense based on this "weakness", that has been likely corrected.

This is a legitimate strategy though. Teams do it all the time.
WHY did the Colts give up? Tom Brady would never want to go 18-1 because of the Super Bowl. He'd rather get that loss in the regular season.

Yeah, sacrificing the knee of the top TE in the NFL was all part of the plan. Pure genius.

Or it could be that refs have only called offensive holding on Broncos opponents an NFL-low five times this season (average is 15)
