Nothing happened. He's always been overrated. Kroos can't make a vertical pass to save his own life, likes to play long sideways balls that bring zero benefit to the team, his off-the-ball game is rubbish, which makes him a liability on both defense or offense (he's never where he is supposed to be). He could be a great DMF if he made an effort, but forget about putting him at a playmaker role, he has no vision or enough understanding of the game to succeed there.
