When did he really begin to challenge Montana as the greatest quarterback of all time?
>>
Favre? Probably when he changed teams.
>>
seriously, tho, Brett was already the GOAT, but when he went to Minnesota and had a great season in '09, that really sealed the deal.
>>
In what ways did Montana cheat?

>most picks of all-time
>ever in #1 GOAT discussion
pick one

I'd put it around mid-2009 for Brady. he had the greatest QB season ever, and despite the loss in the Super Bowl he still crushed it every year except 2008 when he tore his Achilles. He's dragged some terrible teams through playoff runs they should have lost big-time (2011 AFCCG, for example, and will have to do it again this year because all his targets but Gronk are ded or second-rate.

>>63782567
I'll pre-empt your idiotic comeback by saying Tom himself has never himself cheated, and neither did Joe during his career. Any shenanigans involving their respective teams were at the direction of the coaches/FO.
>>
>>63782510
2007 or so

He just needed to prove himself outside of his early dominance to be in the conversation and he did
>>
>>63782724
And what cheating did Montana benefit from?
>>
>>63782567
steroids, the salary cap and stick um
>>
>>63782867
illegal stickum usage by his receivers, most notably "GOAT" Jerry Rice
>but everyone did it back then!

Very true. Good job undermining your own post.
>>
>>63783063
having the benefit of the greatest wide receiver of all-time gives you a greater benefit from that cheating than, say, some scrub on a last-place team.

>But muh cheating

To use that as an actual excuse in an argument really shows you're a mental midget.

If you knew anything about spygate or the context in which it happened, you would not even touch it. Go ahead and even attempt to legitimize deflategate so I can confirm you're actually mentally deficient.

The hatred of the Patriots or Brady is indicative of a new generation of sore fucking losers. It's partly an over-sensitive generation of fans and a cultural environment that makes people hate a winner not on their "side". Just look inside and admit you hate him because he's not on your team.
>>
>>63783113
Clarifying a bit: the stickum would crank up Rice's performance to 12 with all those extra catches, which could inflate his stats more than if the bottom-tier receiver used it to simply get gud.
>>
>overcoming #6 makes you the greatest of all time
thats not how it works
>>
07 was when he entered the debate, 11 was when he ended it

what?

he ended it after losing SB46? not sure what you're getting at here

Brady VS Montana.png

2007 being the break out year with all the records, 2010 Brady had the NFL's only unamimous MVP season, and then followed it up with 5,200 passing yards and 40 touchdowns in 2011. Also taking one of the worst defenses in NFL history (2nd in yardage given up to only the Packers of the same season) to the Superbowl.

The only thing Brady was missing after 2011 was that fourth ring, but his numbers are way better than Montana's ever were. To date, Brady has thrown 144 more touchdowns than Montana, to just 8 more interceptions. Brady tied Montana's record for playoff wins in 2011, and had been to five superbowls in just his 11th season (Montana played for 15 years). So even though he lost the Owl, his resume was arguably better than Montana's at the time. Obviously last year's Owl win sealed it for good.

oh so youre one of those casuals who thinks rings>everything else. lel you probably think dilfer is better than marino. just kill yourself famila

Salary Cap and Stickum Rice
>>
>>63782867
alleged rampant PED use (although most teams probably did this)
stick um
sticking healthy players on IR to protect them against the Cap.
And then the era advantage of no free agency

Brady had more pass friendly officiating. Montana never dealt with losing players to free agency or salary cap restrictions. Call it a wash. Montana never threw to the likes of a Reche Caldwell, David Patten, or Deion Branch.
>>
>>63783831
Branch was actually good m8.

One thing that never gets mentioned is that, because of injuries and/or coaching decisions, he only started about 70% of the games he played in SF. I think it's both a plus (he put up those stats even with constant injury!) and a minus (he missed out on making them even better, esp. with Jerry Fucking Rice at his disposal).
I once tried to project Montana's stats if he had started the same number of games in his career as Brady had at the time (209), and he finished with about 85% of Brady's raw stats, whereas it's not that close now.
>>
>>63784182
*Joe Montana only started 70% of his games

>>63783831
Try Dwight Clark , Russ Francis

this past year he past montana

The main thing you're leaving out is that Montana has those beastly stats in an era when the game DID NOT favor the QB. It wasn't a pass happy league back then and yet Montana was torching defenses with his arm.

Brady would be a fuccboi if he played during Montana's time.
