They have a good foundation that HRT, Virgin and Lotus all lacked in 2010, but their staff are spread across the US (where their design and manufacturing happens), UK (where their race prep happens and where the team will be based in the European season) and Italy (where their wind tunnel stuff and additional design happens) meaning cohesion between the three units will be minimal compared to that to the other teams who are based at the same place.
The team that is sent to the races will be undermanned and woefully lacking in experience, their race strategies will be more conservative than Williams could ever hope to be and in unpredictable conditions they'll panic and fuck up.
The car might be capable of a few points finishes but I'm unconvinced that it will be particularly good aero-wise; their chief designer is the same man who brought McLaren from race-winning to midfield and the assistance they're getting from Ferrari seems to be closer to exploiting a wind tunnel time rule to advantage Ferrari more than to help Haas get on their feet.
I'd be interested to see what design philosophy they go down; Ferrari don't really have one of their own, more of a "let's take what others do and simplify it", while most other teams are copying Mercedes. They could try and emulate Williams' low drag philosophy since no other teams are doing it but I doubt it would work for them.

their chief aero guy is someone they poached from Red Bull at the beginning of this year (and literally called Guru), so I think their aero next season will be very similar to McLaren's.
I doubt they'll ever be a front-running team but they'll have 4th in the championship in the bag and will have a decent shot of challenging Williams.
That said, the aero route Guru and Prodromou are following is very hit or miss - a single area that is lacking in downforce, or too draggy, will result in incredibly unstable airflow and make the car very inconsistent in how it handles. They inherited this philosophy from Newey but Adrian is unrivaled in eliminating that inconsistency while Prod and Guru aren't anywhere near that capable.

red bull's aero team have shown nothing of promise this year. nothing. the only adventurous thing they did was copying merc's front wing. aside from hungary and singapore they haven't had any form this season, while if newey was still in the reigns their chassis would've comfortably taken a few podiums away from williams and ferrari. of course a lot of that is due to renault a shit but there's no indications that the power unit they choose next year, unless it's the 2015 ferrari against horner and dietrich's wishes, will be any improvement.
