Is viera a good manager? I only ask because everyone dismissed marsch when he was hired and said he wouldn't be better than petke. Firing kreis seems so crazy that it might just work.
>>
>>63459287
Not really. Red bull fans were more upset that Ali Curtis suddenly decided to fire Petke. I believe most red bull fans were willing to give Marsch a chance, especially after he gave a good impression at the first town hall meeting. Plus, Marsch did a decent job at Montreal, but got fired because he didn't agree on certain things with Joey Saputo, not because the team had a poor performance.
>>
>>63459440
>>63459287
Yeah
At least Marsch had experience as a coach in MLS
How could Vieira possibly cope with a draft?

Newest NASL team: Rayo OKC

>Originally, NASL awarded Sold Out manager Brad Lund and former partner Tim McLaughlin of OKC Pro Soccer LLC the expansion franchise distinction under the “Oklahoma City FC” banner in July of 2013.

>McLaughlin left the NASL ownership group a year later to take a 50% stake in what is now the USL’s OKC Energy FC.

Getting keked by USL, sad fucking times for Traffic "Sports".
>>
>>63462103
tfw i will never win the lotto and make a cheeky team in So Cal to win the US Open Cup
>>
>>63459287
>everyone dismissed marsch when he was hired and said he wouldn't be better than petke

As an RBNY fan, that's not entirely accurate. Most people questioned Marsch's credentials, but acknowledged that he almost took an expansion team to the playoffs and probably wouldn't be a terrible coach. Petke was no Bruce Arena, but he got the results; the majority of the outrage was based on a successful coach being fired.

And it was painfully ironic for me because I thought Marsch did a good job at Montreal and would always wonder why other teams didn't look into him. Now I'm glad they didn't.
>>
>>63459518
While I think that Viera has his work cut out for him, I'm not understanding the issues people bring up with drafts, DP slots, allocation order, ect. The system is bullshit, but he can learn and even so, isn't this Claudio Reyna's job.

I think the truly difficult part of being the manager of NYCFC is going to be getting the team to not resent each other. When some players are making 100x (not an exaggeration) what their teammates are, it's got to be hard to get them to play together.

Also, dealing with the old players that have "injuries" and just seem like they can't be bothered with MLS can't be fun. Especially when orders from Manchester are to cater to those players.
>>
>>63460871
You don't get 90% of this joke
>>
>>63463217
We don't actually know what Reyna is
But Reyna's inexperience is going to hinder any attempt Vieiria has
Does Reyna know how to game the system? Fuck no
Plus it seems like he has very little power over this

Nah, they have MLS tier defense, what need is proper target. Blas got old real quick, good for maybe 30-45 minutes. Tex is spotty at best and Tesho isn't a good target, seems to play better out wide drifting in.

The next generation of U.S. soccer is even more doomed than what we're currently seeing: http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2015/11/09/no-more-heading-us-soccer-unveils-new-concussion-protocol-for-youth-soccer

Iceland, who if you haven't noticed, are doing pretty damn well in the Euros after having heavily invested into youth soccer and infrastructure, identified 8-10 as the window in which players have to learn technique to become world class, unless they're some naturally gifted freak. Now, those players in the U.S. will be banned from practicing headers, and they'll only be allowed to do them in game from 11-13, after that window.

Expect the 2035 USMNT to score even fewer goals. But of course, Taylor Twellman doesn't care about that: "Can't tell you how emotional I am that progress is being made and I can't wait to see it come to fruition."
>>
>>63461374
I was about to laugh at NASL for having one of the most cringeworthy yuro names yet, but apparently they're actually owned by Rayo Vallecano.

Not sure whether it's much better to be a NASL team whose parent club is bottom of the table in La Liga though.
>>
>>63471795

Messi is not known for his headers mate, you just gotta develop ground technique, which is good because dribling down the flanks and throwing crosses hoping to connect with one of your team mates is boring as fuck.

Hopefully we'll see more play making and less hail mary crosses in the sport.

I'm honest enough to say, this is what happened. He didn't think that way in that moment. It was a mistake in that moment. We have to learn our mistakes so we avoid for the next time. I think it won't happen any more. Sometimes you have to say things publicly to get everyone on board. But the door is always open.

>Portugal also refused
>Scotland, Turkey, and France all withdrew from participation
>before FIFA sold out to commercial interests, which may have corrupted the sport, but got everyone in the world to care about their tournament
>"the most important goal in USMNT history" was so inspiring the USMNT would go on to never qualify again for the World Cup until 40 years later, after the USSF had been awarded the World Cup to host in 1994, prompting it to actually care about soccer in the U.S.
Doesn't sound so impressive when you know the whole story, huh?
>>
>>63491371
They only care about certain players, not the teams and leagues themselves. There's a reason why Telemundo's EPL ratings are on par with NWSL games. Mexicans in particular just want to see their countrymen do well.
>>
>>63491447
On a top kek note, India (like France) waited until the groups were drawn before withdrawing from that 1950 World Cup. They still played soccer barefoot in their country, which FIFA had banned after the 1948 Olympics. True povertyball.

So, in the end, there were 4 groups: Group A had 4 teams, Group B had 4, Group C had 3, and Group D had 2. Uruguay literally only had to beat Bolivia to advance to the final round (they did, 8-0).

It was the only time in World Cup history that the final round was just another group stage. On the last day of the tournament, Uruguay won a cheeky 2-1 game over Brazil, the host country, who had BTFO everyone up to that point besides Switzerland.

tl;dr the 1950 World Cup was a meme tournament and not even grandpas on /sp/ should defend it

Futsal is really similar to indoor soccer. AFAICT the main difference is the hockey-liked walls in indoor soccer vs. letting the ball go out of bounds in futsal. Which, futsal is probably better for development, and it closer to "real" soccer... but banking a pass off of the wall to yourself or a teammate is really cool.

League is called MISL.
