A lot of /sp/ board culture has died off. Not 100% by any means, and some of it has simply been a natural effect of some of the older crowd leaving or posting less. Newfags from reddit and elsewhere haven't helped because of the type of thinking and lack of humor they bring over.
/sp/ moderation is plagued by both a fundamental misunderstanding of /sp/ culture, and egregious misuse of resources/attention. Generals on this board would be fine if they were given more attention to stomp out way off topic posts and spam in those specific threads. As long as that continues not happening, actual discussion dies in sport generals and they just become what you find on /vg/ in many cases.
Power rankings threads are not only not a problem but they belong on /sp/. If a mod doesn't like that, or agree, they should not be on /sp/. The only time they should be getting deleted is if they're being spammed enough to push active threads off the board.
/pol/ fags going on multi-post rants about their half-baked ideas need to be dealt with better by both mods and regular posters. It's not in every thread but I see it much more than, say, 3-4 years ago. Using racial slurs or country bashing or whatever is mostly within /sp/, but the more obvious /pol/ material needs to be either ignored or told to fuck off back to /b/ & /pol/, and dealt with by mods.
