How is that an unpopular opinion? Pretty much fact; his peak was GOAT but short lived due to just not caring, no desire/work ethic. Just wanted to fuck big bunda and PlayStation

your opinion of this opinion being unpopular is unpopular.

England doesn't have not a single world class player.
>>
C.Ronaldo is nowhere near Messi's level and never has been. He's never been 'far ahead' of the players considered below them, like Iniesta, Robben, Suare etc. either

Zidane wasn't as good as people say he was. I'd have quite a few players from that generation ahead of him if i were doing a ranking.
>>
>>63350719

Right now? That's actually a popular opinion because it's true. People rating Rooney, Kane, Sterling etc. on here as world class is just to wind up JF, and it works every time.

The fact you think this is an unpopular opinion shows you have a pretty loose definiton of the term world class.

Not too many keepers are better than him.
>>

Just look at Cristiano's goal scoring record. He's still averaging over a goal a game after being there for 6 years. He scored 48 goals in a league season. Nobody apart from Messi can get close to that level.

Modric is the best DM in the world, his inuries hurt Madrid more than Ronaldo's.

i think he has been superior than robben and suarez but not by a mile, if thats what you meant with "far ahead", i agree. actually i rate iniesta on par with cristiano.

>MUH STATS

Useless without context. His influence on big games is non-existent. Sorry but running up the score against cannon fodder doesn't make you the best player in the world.

Messi is on another level because not only does he match and sometimes better Ronaldo's goal output, but he's also the top playmaker too and actually influences games when he's not scoring. It baffles me how anyone can watch both players play and think that Ronaldo is anywhere near Messi.
>>
>>63350885
Literally irrelevant. Ronaldo could sit down wanking on the pitch for 80 minutes every game, but he will still go down in history as one of the best because of his goalscoring record. 233 goals in 210 games in La Liga.
>>
This man deserved to be born in Brazil.
>>
>>63350834
Modric being labelled as a DM would certainly be unpopular.

Other than that, completely agree. Since leaving Tottenham, they have never played as well. He is one of those few players that on his own can change the style of play of a team for the better.

Most underrated midfielder.

The point of the sport is to score goals. Ronny does it more than anyone else except for Messi. It's as simple as that

>>

Zidane was every bit as good as people say he was. Just not consistently over the course of the season. Bergkamp is the same. The reason these type of players get rated so highly is because they're the ones that transcend the sport into an art form.

>>

Also Neymar will never reach Messi's level. Even if we compare them at the same age Messi still shits on him from a great height. There's only 1 or 2 players in history that can possibly compare with Messi. Neymar won't even reach Rivaldo/Ronaldinho level.
>>
>>63351152

Both were inconsistent. Both had 10/10 technique. Zidane is rated higher purely because of his NT success and because he played for RM.
>>
People who rate Zidane over Bergkamp are youtube fanboys or North African scumbags

People who rate Bergkamp higher are usually multiple degree holding intellectuals with a real passion for being correct
>>
We wouldn't even be having this debate about Zidane if Ronaldo didn't have his seizure right before the 98 World Cup final. If Brazil won (which they should of) Zidane would of been forgotten.

Bergkamp was litterally Berbatov level. Nothing more, just nostalgia from Arsenal fans (where he wasn't always a starter).
Never relevant with his national team even if it was as stacked as France.

The problem is that Ronaldo has actually proved himself in different leagues, as well as carries his national team constantly. Messi has only played in a 2 team league where he's basically guaranteed wins. He has done fuck all for his national team, as well.

That's why CR7 should be rated higher.

Getting eliminated in a group with USA and Ghana or Losing to Greece in a final.

you can use this inversion argument for any goal
>>
>>63351354
Yes.

The only footballer that was truly on Messi's level was 95-00 Ronaldo, before exploding knees. Romário could've reached this level if he were less of a "I play because I like playing, just don't expect me to train or work for the team" guy and more of a professional athlete.

Ronaldinho is quite a ways below that (but still above Memedane), even if he was still a world-class footballer in PSG and during his time in Milan (though not GOAT anymore).

And Nerman obviously will never be as good as Messi/Fatnaldo/Romário/Dinho/Rivaldo.
>>
>>63351273
There's really no debate between Fatnaldo and Zidane for anyone that saw them both in the 90s (and that includes Juve fans).

prime Ronaldo was two whole levels above Zidane, the comparisons between them only got out of hand in the 00s after they went to RM.
>>
>>63350941

>>
The brazilian league was the best in the world during the 50s to 70s (literally had more world-class players than any euro league) and top 3 in the 80s through 1995 when the Bosman ruling changed football forever.

After reaching a low point in the mid-00s, it's climbed back up to the 5th or 6th best league quality-wise.

Not only that, the average brazilian top-division player (think of a mediocre player, the kinds of which fights for a spot in Southampton or Getafe, the average joe) is widely better than the average french, spanish or even argentinian player, losing only to the average EPL player (since even their smallest clubs can just buy quality players from around the world) and Bundasliga player (good academies, good financial power, good football tradition). Makes it for an entertaining watch all-around, if not top level.

That being said it relatively declined a lot since the golden ages.
>>
The USSR was the most glorious sporting power of all time and no matter how hard any country tries they will never emulate its success
>>
>>63354479
Bosman ruling is a scapegoat, it was already declining in the 80s, when our best player left the country to play for Udinese in his peak. Romário left early and peaked in Europe. Ronaldo didn't even get to make a name in Brazil before leaving.
That's all before the Bosman ruling.

Brazil is simply poor and cannot get its best players until the country stops being poor or exempts athletes and clubs from paying taxes altogether.
>>
>>63354845
meant *keep not get
>>
>>63354845
Absolutely true.

But still, I only meant to highlight some of the Rio-São Paulo championships Pelé's Santos, especially the ones involving Garrincha's Botafogo, 50's Vasco (which served as a base for the NT at the time) and Didi's Fluminense were more difficult than entire euro leagues at the time.

I just see /sp/ morons posting some silly stuff from time to time, such as "Pelé never played in Europe, he only played against farmers and miners", when he made an entire career actually playing against teams superior to anything Europe had to offer at the time (including Eusébio's Benfica), save perhaps DiStefano's RM.

Not that I mean to whiteknight for that limpdick viagra-eating old fart, it's just for the sake of historical accuracy.
>>
>>63354479
>the average brazilian top-division player (think of a mediocre player, the kinds of which fights for a spot in Southampton or Getafe, the average joe) is widely better than the average french, spanish or even argentinian player
>spanish
I don't understand that, if the average brazilian player is around the same level as a squad player for getafe, a bottom of the league player, then how these players are better than the average spanish players?
>>
>>63355064
That's because you're making an incorrect assumption. Getafe is a midtable La Liga team, not a perennial relegation candidate, bottom-of-the-table team.

They've been in La Liga for a solid 11 years now.
>>
>>63355130
>>63355064
Hell, lately they've even been qualifying to the Europa League.
>>
>>63355164
they ended up 15th last year, 13th in the 2013/2014 season and they're currently 14th they're not relegation candidate but still a lower than average la liga team
and even then you were talking about the kind of players who would struggle to get games for them

I think people tend to overrate Ronaldinho because of his Youtube vids:

He made great perfomances, for example that game on the Bernabeu or semifinals against Milan. He totally changed Barcelona for good.

But in many games he was irrelevant: In 2006 he was the best player in the world, and he didn't do shit in CL finals or World Cup.
Won 2002 won cup, yes, but he was, in responsability, beyond Ronaldo or Rivaldo.

Romário is very overrated, only had two great important performances for the NT (against Uruguay in the qualifiers and Netherlands in the quarter-finals). Because of that chance he missed, he would be considered a choker today if Brazil hadn't won the shootouts of the final.

Senna is also absurdly overrated. Yeah he was very good, maybe the best, at getting pole positions and running under raining, but not even close to being the best in other aspects of the sport. Prost was better, and Schumacher is a complete tier of his own.
