Metal Thread - /soc/ edition!

It's time for the weekend metal thread!
Post songs, discuss bands, ask for recommendations, promote your own/local music, chat with each other, etc...
Drop youtube links of the songs you mention, if you can. Please. For the love of Dio.

Here are some questions you can answer if you want to, feel free to skip any:

Why yes, I did make the OP pic myself and yes, I know it's garbage. I just wanted something that would be clear and recognizable so people will know whether to check out the thread or hide it.

Gojira.

I have no idea how they can be so immensely popular in a certain sub-group but virtually unknown outside.

Oh, and Animals as Leaders.

Gojira (Strasbourg 2012 "L'enfant Sauvage" tour w/ Trepalium and Klone).

Atmospheric Black, Stoner Metal and Tech Death should be my favourites.

>What's a song/band that you feel more people should check out, and why?
Agalloch, definately, people need to find the beauty in their music, the way it connects you with peace, misery and nature at the same time.

>What's your favorite live performance that you've witnessed?
I'd have to go between Biohazard in 2015 and Primordial in 2013.

>Use this one to pretend I just asked you about something you want to tell us about
I'd say there are a lot of shows that I've enjoyed, some of them were exceptional, I've mentioned those bands because they connected with the crowd in a unique way and created a certain atmosphere. I didn't choose the best live performances artistic-wise, but generally.

Artistic-wise, as in the way they played, I think it could be Gojira in 2013, Obituary and Sodom in 2014.

personally i liked From Mars to Sirius better but i only saw them once after L'Enfant Sauvage was released.
tight performance, no doubt.
generally a great band.

From Mars to Sirius was definitely their best album, hands down. But at their level, that makes their other albums just regular great.
>>
>>23711961
Indeed. Their performance was on-point! Came in, introduced themselves, said a few nice things about Romania, as they were here for the first time and did their thing, amazingly good.

Yup. It's halfway down my back.
>Three bands you've listened a lot to recently (metal or otherwise)?
Ne Obliviscaris, Ghost Brigade, and Rishloo.
>What metal subgenres are you most into at the moment?
Black Metal, Death Metal, Progressive metal, Experimental/Avant-garde metal.
>What's a song/band that you feel more people should check out, and why?
Ne Obliviscaris, Rishloo, Enslaved, Agalloch, Opeth (general audiences), Between the Buries and Me (general audiences), Ghost Brigade, Protest the Hero, Zhrine, maudlin of the Well, Spectral Lore, Akhlys, Batuskha, Haken, Vipassi, The Gabriel Construct, Intronaut, SiKth, and The Contortionist (Language and/or Exoplanet. Mike Lessard is flawless).

Every band I've mentioned (off the top of my head) is spectular and hard workers. They deserve a lot more fans for the art they create.
>What's your favorite live performance that you've witnessed?
Saw Ne Obliviscaris play a 90 minute set in St. Louis. It was a small venue with about 50 people in attendance; it was intimate and full of people that love the band. There's always a small group of people in any concert that's full of energy; that's what the 50 of us were. Before and after the show, the band hung out and signed merch; I had a pretty good conversation with their drummer. Don't think anything can top that.
>Use this one to pretend I just asked you about something you want to tell us about.
I'm afraid that I'm just a typical hipster douche with long-ass hair and that I'll one day stray away from the music that I love.

Death, particularly Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic when Chuck scrapped his entire band for technically proficient session musicians (great quality albums, and Gene Hoglan is a hell of a drummer). In saying that though Chuck is a mastermind so their entire discography is pretty great

Unleash the Archers. Great Death/Power Metal band from Canada. Discovered them on Youtube a few years back. No links though, because I'm on my mobile. Sorry.

Fuck the elitist haters, why should you be ashamed of listening to a deathcore band? Job for a Cowboy are nice, I stumbled over them a few years back by chance when they toured with The Black Dahlia Murder and The Red Chord and had a blast. Good band. Maybe I should give their new stuff a listen.

Folk Metal is fuaarking awesome.
>What's a song/band that you feel more people should check out, and why?
This album "Batavi" by Heidevolk

Because it kicks ass and it's about the tribe called Batavi who at first were allies of the roman empire but later broke free and fought for their independance.
>What's your favorite live performance that you've witnessed?
I've pretty much never been to a live performance since i live in a small town with no nearby festivals but i would love to go some time.
>Use this one to pretend I just asked you about something you want to tell us about
Weightlifting and metal are bros 4 life to be honest also i wish people would recommend me metal bands that are like Heidevolk (sing about historical events) AND also: I like clean vocals! Honestly if i can't distinguish what the singer is saying then i generally won't like the band. Growling is okay in small doses only. That's just like my opinion.

Take advantage of the fact that man buns are in style right now!

Grad school and having a SO who isn't into metal. Agalloch is fucking amazing, by the way. I can hear the whispered last track in my head already. Memories...

>Long hair?
Used to a long time ago. Then it started falling off so I shaved it all and thanks god for allopecia because I looked really stupid with those.
>Three bands you've listened to a lot recently (metal or otherwise)?
Ghost BC, Paradise Lost and Electric Six
>What metal subgenres are you most into at the moment?
Err, old heavy (I think), some kinda doom and punk rock. Yeah I know it's not a metal subgenre but fuck you.
>What's a song/band that you feel more people should check out, and why?
Electric Six /Clutch, because those bands are cheery as f#ck.
>What's your favorite live performance that you've witnessed?
Clutch at Hellfest. As soon as they started playing, everybody jumped up and down, people slamming everywhere (even a topless girl) and a damn good feeling. And people only stopped jumping at the end of the last note of the last song. Amazing.
>Use this one to pretend I just asked you about something you want to tell us about
Yeah I know I should do my dishes and make some food, but fuck you still. Also, I once got a drum stick from a Carcass show where a I met a tiny tiny japanese girl dressed in a tanuki costume.
