The Tenderloin is an area of the city. It's the most poorest part of the city next to Hunter's Point. The Tenderloin has the most crime in the city. Seeing people doing drugs on the street is pretty common. I have walked around the area dozens among dozens of times during the day and night and nothing bad has ever happened to me. You just got to watch yourself and don't talk to no random people on the street. Crazy homeless out in SF will always try to talk with you. Just ignore them and they will leave you alone. If you talk with them it will most likely lead to something bad.
