I honestly prefer it here in Oregon, there's no snow or ice, and it's not 100+ degrees with 100% humidity.
The scenery is gorgeous, we called a forest a cluster of about 20 trees. It was all flat and full of farms, but here, everything is green and gorgeous. I was awestruck by Crater Lake and the coast, I didn't think I'd ever be on a coast or on a beach in my life.
The schools out here are better and there's a lot more opportunities out here in every field imaginable.

Hillsboro's close enough to Portland to still be in a more liberal part of the state, so you probably won't see much by way of Klansmen/neo-Nazis. I live in Aloha, and I've honestly not seen any real trouble here firsthand. There was the one very recent murder attempt right around the corner, but that's A) vanishingly rare and B) could've been avoided if the guy understood "hey, someone's starting shit where nobody can stop him... standing their and not completely uncanning his shit is a Bad Idea".

This is so true. It kind of sad, but Oregon has had a bad history. Sundown towns existing until mid 60s, the flooding of Vanport in Portland due to poor city planning. Oregon used to be considered a white utopia, but so easily forgotten because "that was so long ago" as if it disappeared. The problem is white people who never knew black people to understand right from wrong or those that do, but don't even listen. As if they understand. It's ignorance of internalized and subconscious racism and ignorance doesn't excuse racism. It's about recognizing how actions affect and oppress people before making defensive rationalizations.

All I'm talking about is recognizing racism and racists, whether conscious or subconscious. If we don't recognize these problems, how are they going to be fixed?
