Ren was already partially defeated by the time Rey even got to him honestly. That wookie blaster- which throws enemies all the way across the battlefield, took a lot out of his ribs, as well as severe blood loss. The emotional trauma of finally killing his father also had him thrown off. If Ren truly felt a pull to the light, he would have likely felt a huge ripple through the force as well, feeling all of the deaths and disturbances throughout the entire Hosnian System as it was destroyed right out of the galaxy- which also would have thrown him into a completely new state.
Ren was not at his true potential during his fight, he was wounded, crippled, and his emotional state was not in check.
